Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

Our second Friday night fixture on the bounce see's the visit of Gary Bollan's, Cowdenbeath from League Two, tomorrow night in our opening home fixture of season 19/20.

The Fife team claimed 3 points in their opening Betfred fixture against fellow Fifers East Fife and then lost their second fixture 0-2 against Premiership side Hearts.

They will look to come to Tannadice and cause a huge upset and leapfrog us in the table. We must be professional and start the game in a determined fashion and try and attempt to take the wind out their sails.

Your preffered team and formation, Gents? I would like to see Smith and Sporle back in the Full-Back positions again. I'd also start Nicky Clark upfront with Shankland. So my preffered Utd XI would be (4-4-2)

..........................Siegrest...............................
.....Smith....Connolly...Reynolds...Sporle...
McMullan....Butcher...Stanton...Chalmers.
...................Clark...Shankland.......

Subs - Mehmet, Watson, Robson, King
           Harkes, Banks, Appere

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

Really hope it’s two up top. If we go with a Largs-esque 4231 or 4321 with Shankland feeding off scraps I really fear for a repeat of last season. I take it Sow still has his perma knock?

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Heard it was a calf strain JA.

But i have a feeling it will always be something.

Contrary to popular opinion, I thought Chalmers was pretty guff the other night and would definitely start Banks over him.

Would be nice to see Pawlett before the league starts but looking unlikely.

I thought him and Appere (and the whole team) were really quite mediocre the other night.

But Chalmers showed me one or two wee moments of genuine skill (in the latter part of the match) that made me think that, i'd like to see him start the game at LW against Cowden with the George Fox on his side.

P.s. be ok with Banks also.

Benji

McMullan Butcher Stanton Banks

C Smith Shankland

I'm fairly certain Clark will play with Shankland up top but I'd prefer to see Cammy given a chance up there. I dont really understand why he doesnt get more gametime. Clark is decent but Neilson seems to rate him a lot more than his performances merit. When was his last goal from open play?

He's 19 and started what about 3 first team games?  Showed some flashes of real quality give the guy a chance ffs.

This for me. Give the lad a chance, thought he was okay especially second half.

Chalmers is not a  natural wide player. If he makes a success at Utd it will be in the no10, 2nd striker role. im sure he will play better if he gets encouragement from the stands

Rubbish...  Chalmers and Banks preferred position is actually wide right so they can cut in on their left foot, if you watched them in reserves and 18s thats where they usually play

I was more meaning the ‘Banks for Chalmers’ bit, that’s all. Would like to see a bit more of him.

This team, not understanding how on earth how Cammy isn’t getting a chance, pissing me off tbh

Without giving much away ive watched Chalmers since the U9s. He always played through the middle and was a prolific goalscorer .  It was only when he signed fulltime that he has been used wide left.

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

I thought Chalmers and Appere were our best two players in the first half.  Appere fell out of it when he went wide in the 2nd half but overall I thought Chalmers was excellent and one of our best performers on the night

That's got me intrigued, Beharder: I'm wondering what you think you might be 'giving away', after watching Logan Chalmers for over ten years.

I'm keen for all these lads to do well, Appere, Banks and Logan, and am a wee bit surprised not to have seen Declan Glass involved this season: is he injured?

I'd say if he hasnt played No.10 in 3 years he's no longer a number 10?

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

Best things I've seen from LC is when playing wide right.
Maybe he's just versatile.
To use the number parlance, he can play #7 (wide right), #11 (wide left), #9 (centre forward) and # 10 (#10)
Maybe Logan can respond on here under an alias & let us know?

He came on against Linfield in that position and scored the winner.

Re: Dundee United v Cowdenbeath - Fri 19/7/19 (7.45pm)

You'll catch Archie Thomas & Graham Taylor in Cowdenbeath's midfield tonite. Two very recent Tannadice departures signed by manager Gary Bollan who some will remember was our unused sub in the 94 cup final win. Don't think it will be a cakewalk. They beat East Fife 2-0 and only lost to Hearts by the same score.

It's at home , it's on grass, rains forecast so the pitch will be slick. I'm hoping for and it should be a win by a convincing score tonight.

Courier saying Liam Smith and Bouhenna both have knocks.  Sow out for at least 10 more days.
