Time will tell and I’m still confident about this season but tonight hasn’t given me much extra hope.
How do u no that, we’ve played 2 games ffs, sows not playing pawlett no playing, we made 5 changes from Friday night, 2 first choice full backs weren’t on
I get it if we’re playing like that 7/8 games in to season but honestly some of the shite I’ve read on this twitter Facebook, it’s infuriating
How the fuck is anyone supposed to succeed as united manager or players if it’s CONSTANT negativity
We’ve finally got a manger in place who has actually done something in this league his record since being here is actually decent, give the man at least till 7/8 games in to the season till we question him
Look at every other result except Morton very much similar to ours, hardest fans to please I’ve absolutely no doubt

We are 3 and a half weeks into pre season so I'm not going to panic about anything so far. Like the above poster says, if we get a good few games into the season and we are no further forward then of course you will start to ask proper questions. Neilson obviously recognises we didnt do well last night at times. His interview after the game when asked if he'll be working on anything in the coming days he said "passing to someone in tangerine maybe?" So he isnt just blind to it. He also mentioned he's tried a couple of different formations so far this season (which so many are crying out for) so it will time take time.
On to Friday now and hopefully a vocal Tannadice will see us stick a few past Cowdenbeath.

I will get on to the performance in a minute but astroturf is killing the game imo
Bouncy hard bone dry surface- put average players on it and you get a poor game. Get it all ripped up and away to fuck. The cricket pitch next to Ochilview looked a great surface should have played on that.

On the whole that was a gash performance. Can't fault the team for effort, they all were trying but other then a 15/20 minute spell in the 2nd half, Stenny matched us all over really. Shankland and Appere the only ones I can give any real pass marks to - they both ran their hearts out and were living off scraps. Chalmers came onto a decent game in the 2nd half, he has a lot of skill.
Agree about the pitch playing a part though, a terrible surface to play a professional game on, get them to fuck!

The game Overall a 5/10 performace. We are miles ahead of where we were at the start of last season but still looking a bit laboured in the build up,did I mention the pitch?
Connolly deservedly given MOM, His aggression is exactly what we need. Despite not looking great I felt there was at least 2 goals between the teams.
The main positive for me last night was the performance of Chalmers. He has that something different that you don't see much at this level , the dragback, the step over not the sort of player as a defender you would want to come up against. Moment of the match was near the end when Logan chased an overhit pass by Reynolds( imagine that eh) caught it just on the byline skipped passed the fullback in one movement and whipped over a great cross that almost led to a goal. As a no.10 this lad could be a big player for us. Full marks to RN for boosting his confidence by giving him 90mins. On to Friday
To me the main problem is the distribution from the back.
especially Reynolds ffs the guy thinks hes Beckenbauer continually looking for the hollywood pass which goes nowhere near a player. Get it, pass it to someone in midfield who is better, simple as that.

Maybe just me, but i thought their playing surface looked really decent.
Looked superior to the plastic pitch at Livingston, Alloa even Killie.

Connolly and Reynolds to me are an accident waiting to happen against superior opposition.
Keep reading fellow Arabs saying that they will be fine at Championship level. I'm not convinced at all. They were split open 2 or 3 times again last night.
And Neilson can't be either given he wants to bring another CH in.

Agree.
Regardless of the pitch though you'd think professional players would somehow cope with a less than ideal surface.
some pointers after last night....
- this time last season we might have lost that game.
- delighted Beharder's praising of Chalmers, he's been my tip-for-the-top for three seasons, time now?
- the 2 Marks unfairly criticised. They dealt comfortably with the considerable presence of Ikpeazu & Washington at Tynie.
- no Banksy from the bench last night?
- Sam Stanton could yet be the #10 we're looking for
- the result last night compared favourably to the fortunes of some other teams. Wee teams are bursting a gut. Don't suppose Jambos are happy with only 2 goals at Cowden. Fermers pissed off.
- feel success this season could be youth-driven, I wouldn't object if Adam King is our last signing
- isn't it strange how Paul Watson is often good for a goal?

Its not the worst astro TEK I would agree with that. IMO though all astro is shite it totally changes the way the game is played. Nearly all the players would agree, the majority of supporters would agree. It should have no place in senior Scottish football.

Because it’s pretty obvious. It’s not just two games, it’s the same style of play we’ve seen for not much less than a full seasons worth of games from him now.
The stuff you’ve read can’t be anywhere near as infuriating as last night was watching players pass sideways and then lump the ball out of the park against a part time side two divisions below. A neutral last night would’ve struggled to tell which side was the league two team and which one was the championship team.
If you’re saying that the reason players and managers struggle and Tannadice is because the fans are too negative then you’re barking up the wrong tree. Fans are the least of the clubs worries. Not sure how you’re expecting people to be positive after scrapping a win against Stenhousemuir.

People keep going on about Neilson delivering average/boring performances since he came in. I'm a bit confused as our biggest issue last year was not converting the multiple chances we created. In my opinion we werent boring. We just lacked the final ball or finish.

Wasn't at the game but unsurprised by the outcome. Yet it's still really pre season.
Regarding artificial grass, I don't like it in senior Scottish football, but installation has been forced on some clubs due to the way money is distributed throughout the game.
The vast majority of clubs (including ours) worship the imagined importance of the Glasgow twins. As a result, they starve themselves of a fairer cash division, this having a knock on forcing some clubs to use their pitch as a rentable community facility.

Certainly wernt boring and yes, I agree we missed loads of chances. One game in particular (cannae mind who but sure it was midweek) safranko missed a barrow load of great chances

100% this.
It’s a completely different game on Astro to grass.

conceded 6 in our last 11 competitive games.
never more than 1 each time.
3 of those games were against Prem opposition.
I understand our defence isn’t great, but believe me, it could be a whole lot worse. They need our backing.

Agreed. It’s like people have forgotten about Durnan, Donaldson, Edge and Murdoch at centre half.
Connolly’s no that bad.

if he could reign it in, he’d be perfectly fine.
he can’t seem too though, and the opposition knows it.

We’ve moaned for years and I mean years, about us wanting defenders in who can actually defend and we now have fans moan, expected.
Would expect Ben hall to sign, hopefully he can turn in to pique

Spot on with Connolly. He is a proper leader but makes some shite decisions sometimes. Got to take the good with the bad. I'd have him and Reynolds over every other CB we've had since going down.

I haven't forgotten about them.
But is that the benchmark we are using to gauge whether someone is actually any good? Are they better than Donaldson and Murdoch? Yep. Ok that'll do.
Connolly and Reynolds have been rocky in several games and though the goals conceded since they came in isn't actually that bad, i do feel that at certain times we have rode our luck and a better team with better forwards would have exposed us. Their distribution from the back is also poor (particulary Reynolds).
That's my concern.

For anyone who never seen the goals, you can see them here.

This for me. No point in trying to play any system if your Centre back just continually pumps it aimlessly time and time again.

It’s not their defending that bothers me, it’s their distribution. What’s the point in stopping the striker to then just pump it only for it to come back and we’re having to defend again.
