Much like Jim has been put on a pedestal. He's almost a deity to some who can hear nothing negative about him.

There has been negative things said about his man management style in this very thread.

Possibly correct.

Wee Jim definitely wasn't a good man Manager, rather one that led through fear.

Tactically though he is a genius and most of Bannon's fellow batch of 80's superstars have all acknowledged this (Luggy, Gough, Heggy etc etc). It's just a bit of a shame that Bannon doesn't give him any credit at all in this regard.

And whilst I have no doubts he is just being honest from his point of view, it does leave this Arab feeling disappointed in his comments.

Re: Eamonn Bannon

Bannon was a fantastic player for United 108 goals from midfield will probably never be equalled.
Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.
He should keep his negative thoughts to himself if he wants to retain his legend status, although I think that documentary and the infamous "get Bannon aff" really pissed him off and he said as such once that it should have been cut out.

I also feel that maybe he resents the fact that he showed loyalty to Utd for so many years and yet the minute he was even slightly 'passed his best' McLean binned him.

But despite them having no lost love for one another, this definitely wasn't personal on McLean's part imo.

He always got rid of players when he felt they had offered the club the best they had and were starting to wind down in their career. Look at Ralphie for instance, or Graeme Payne. Awesome players but binned by Mclean both at just 27 years old. But he was correct. Neither hit such heights again in their careers post-Utd.

In terms of form i should say, in Ralphie's case, not stature of club/s he would go on to play for.

It is disappointing that he didn't seem to enjoy it here but we don't know the ins and outs. I'm sure he has his reasons for feeling the way he does and for us on the outside it's painful but surely understandable. Everyone is different and reacts differently to certain authority figures. I don't blame him for struggling to keep his mouth shut when Jim was yelling and screaming as i think I'd be similar. For some it just can't have been a fun work environment. He's an intelligent man too, he wasn't a wee bairn needing tough love so it no doubt just didn't sit well with him. Jim is obviously a legend but he could be spiteful, ruining lots of young players careers by locking them into massive contracts and letting them rot in the reserves to stop other teams getting them. I feel it's important for us to accept that there are some awful qualities to Jim as well as the great...no good comes out of us as a fanbase making him out to be some sort of deity. It's a dangerous precedent
