Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

I think that’s what’s impressive about Shanklands stats. He sets up almost as much goals as he scores.

Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

If anyone has time to go through individual performances from tonight it would be really appreciated. Still in work at this horrific hour but listened to some of it on arabzone. Liam Smith sounded very impressive.

Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

Dont think the trialist Ganet done much and wouldnt be offering him a deal based on tonight.

Liam Smith looked good.

Appere was a stand out for me think he looked very good.
Sow put himself about but he was limping about after he came off.

Shankland couple of chances when came on puts himself about.

I think it was a decent run out for the players and good to see us get a few goals. Hopefully same tomorrow.

Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

Like the look of Liam Smith, got a proper good right back on our hands there.

The Argie wasn’t overly impressive, but it’s his first game with his new team mates so may take time to settle.

Can’t see Ganet getting signed, likes a tackle but doesn’t offer anything we don’t already have. Bouhenna’s far more comfortable in midfield than at the back.

Chalmers was decent, but the stand out for me was Appere, hopefully he gets a chance this season, reckon he could do the business for us, big lad with a great physique, strong and hardworking with a bit of ability, played wide left but he looks more like a target man to me, would much rather we have him a chance than Stevie May.

Shankland looks like he’s enjoyed his summer, will take a good few weeks before he’s up to speed fitness-wise.

Doesn't get mentioned that much but a mate said he had 24 assits in the last 2 seasons.

I'm hopeful his movement and ability to score fae 20 yards with his left n' 25 yards with his right as "Jobby McCall" put it is about to help change our previously predictable as fuck style and tactics.

He scores different types of goals and how all that can work with Clarke & Sow intrigues me.
Young ains coming through could also add to this as well as on form creative midfielders.

Options and hopes feel different.

Early days, won't get carried away after beating a Brechin team with 5 starting trialists and 4 more out of 5 trialist subbies.

Good confidence booster though.

Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

My take on it-

United starting XI: out of 10

Siegrist - nothing to do couple of crosses but nothing much else

L Smith - looks a good player especially going forward took his goal really well. Took a shocking elbow to the puss with a fair amount of blood but played on 8

Connolly - decent won headers and played it simple 7

Reynolds - as above 7

Sporle - looked better second half before the changes, think he’ll take a bit of time to get used to Scottish fitba but signs are good 6

Bouhenna - strolled about, pinged passes about and never broke sweat, he’s definitely a midfielder rather than a centre half 8

Stanton - was superb, lung bursting runs all night and his goal was superb 9

(Trialist) Ganet - looked good too, fair shift and he passed the ball well 7

Sow - Stong hold up play and looked a bit sharper and interested tonight a decent shift before he came off 7

McMullan - plated well just his usual tricky wing play but some final balls were just not quite on the money 7

Chalmers - young lad did well a decent run out and some good skills 7

Subs:

Watson - did ok and nice goal for him 6

Frans - nothing much to do 5

Graham - as above 5

Robson - looked like he had a point to prove, now under pressure for a place 6

Glass - did well 6

C Smith - could be our no 10 type player some nice through balls 7

Banks - young lads were really impressive 6

Mochrie - as above comment 6

Harkes - nice tidy player just getting back but showed some nice touches 6

Appere - Looked very impressive, strong laddie who looks more than ready to push for a starting jersey really pleased with him tonight. 8

Shankland - looks even from that 35min to have something, clever runs, nice touches and almost that first goal tonight 7.

Unnamed Trialist - centre mid looked ok too 6.

All in all a very impressive performance, excellent tempo for the full 90mins and really put Brechin to the sword. Trying not to get carried away but that was superb at times tonight.

Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

I hope for the same tomorrow. 4/5 goals would be good.

Not quite ‘putting a marker down’ but the fans enjoy it and positivity is huge

Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

Scott Banks looked really impressive imho. Put some goood balls in and his movement looked first class.

Appere looked good again. Been a long time since we had a 'bustling' striker.

Too much commotion

Re: Brechin City V's Dundee United - Friday 5th July

I’m trying not to get to excited cause it was Brechin but full backs are a big improvement than last season, sporle had didn’t have a great first half but second he was going forward and looked great and Smith was immense all night, the thing that is exciting me though is the young players, appere chalmers banks mochrie (dare i say it, reminds me hugely of gauld), I’ve seen appere maybe 4/5 times and I’ve no idea what he’s done but he is a completely different player He’s so direct quick great touch and skill, he really has the chance to play a lot this season been so impressed by him at east fife and last night, banks is a hell of a player aswell just glides past players and chalmers is pretty much the same, the feel good factor is back
