Robbie and the staff deserve praise for convincing him to consider us over big clubs.
But for me the question is where does he fit In to our team? Who will he play with and what's our approach for getting the most out of him. If that's been carefully thought through then this is a great move.
If teams continue to sit in deep against us, I don't know how the current midfield will break them down or create enough chances for LS to justify wages.
People need to watch his highlight reel of his goals last season. "He needs to play in a front 2" and "we need to get a winger to get balls in the box" are both myths. He scores all types of goals and is a total predator. Whether we play 4231 or 442 or anything else doesnt change the fact we have signed someone who has been red hot the last couple of years.
If we play the 4231 then its going to be Clark/C Smith/Pawlett in the role behind him and all of those players will spend their time close to Shankland. Clark drops slightly deeper yes, but it wasnt too often that our 1 striker was isolated last season.
Great post LEKky. Thankyou.

Could only dream of that kind of pairing at the end of last season and now we are 50% there.
Seriously though, surely we wont get Gauld...

Aye, got to commend the owners and management on securing Shankland (who I have reservations about, but won't piss on any parades again, you could check back if you really want to spoil the day).
Not just signing the player as such, this is a statement of intent by the club, and I've got a feeling we will also get Ryan Gauld.

I’m delighted with this, the laddie ripped us and others a new arsehole last season if he can reproduce for us then I’ll be a happy Arab.

If we get Gauld and someone like Nicholson in we will walk this league.

We haven’t got 20 league goals out of a striker since Davie Dodds 82/83

An excellent signing and one I am delighted with even if slightly surprised that it actually happened.
I was convinced that he was going to end up going to England particularly with Sunderland and Hull interested.

I think Jon Daly scored over 20 in all competitions but 18/19 league goals.

It was 5 years ago yesterday that Ryan Gauld left for Portugal.
That's all I'm saying.
Ok I will say it.
It's 5 years since he kicked a ball.
Could he reignite his career at Tannadice?
I sincerely hope so.
I'm still trying to let the signing of Laurence of Arabia sink in

A lot of Ayr fans saying the majority of Shankland’s goals were created by Moffat in the last two years.
While he isn’t a striker, I think Ryan Gauld is the perfect player to provide the key pass to setup Shankland. If not Gauld, I think Cammy Smith can also play well in the shadow striker role behind Shankland if we go 1 up top.
I would be surprised if Neilson continues to play 1 up top though. I don’t know the detail of either contract, however, I think it’s pretty well known that both Shankland and Sow are on very good money for this level and I’d be surprised if Neilson can justify leaving either one or even both of them on the bench.

Sorry the tone of my post wasn't clear. It was actually a dig at the moaners on this forum.

I'll take this one.
Broken leg on debut, out all season and no goals.
That the answer you wanted? 🖒

Look I can see why people are sceptical about any signing we make, we have been beaten down again and again over the past 4-5 years in particular. False dawn after false dawn. Players coming in and out in again all pretty much unable to get us going.
There is however got to be a turning point when we do sign the right players and they click. Let’s all hope and pray that this is the season which see’s us doing the bizz and not reverting to type.
One thing is for sure we now do have the right backing and infrastructure in place to allow this to happen.
All aboard for season 2019-20

I went on there after I saw the news break and the first four posts were all about how this deal is not going to be a success.
There is justifiable pessimism and then there is whatever the fuck that site has become.

Out of interest I had a look and negative would be an understatement, those guys would make Victor Mildew look perfectly positive and highly cheerful in comparison.
Personally I feel highly confident that this move will be a successful one.

So it looks like no news today. Any inside info in regards to medical etc? Did it go ahead today?
Well either a lot of Scottish top flight clubs will have egg on their faces on this one or we will.
A bold move - lets hope it works out
