Banks hopefully.
Don’t think much of Appere, and Chalmers’ attitude is awful (or at least that’s the opinion from a few people who know him, arrogance not the worst trait for a young talent)
what position can Banks play?

I'd rather we got another manager. I've no faith in Nielson.
I ken that's negative but his tactics give me the fear.
Have to disagree. He definitely has some flaws but thats the reason he is with us and not managing a bigger club. Dont think we'd manage to get anyone better tbh.

One up top wont win us the league.
Anyway this is a signings /rumours thread so sorry for hijacking it.

Think he is a winger/no10
Biggest problem with our youngsters recently has been physicality. Look at Motherwells youngsters, lots of them seem to come through looking like proper athletes ready to compete at first team level.
We have Chalmers, Glass, M Smith who all seem to be be too weak at this point to really stand out at this level.

Maybe he means some players either get yes or no's from English clubs once back in training etc.
Why would players need to wait till clubs are back in training? It's people behind the scenes that deal with transfers these days and that's been the case for many years.
It just sounds like an excuse from Neilson because it would seem we aren't any closer to signing anyone.
Managers want to get their squads together after the summer and reassess. They’ll then work with their management to agree who’s staying and the areas they want to strengthen. That’s what Robbie’s waiting on. THOSE players who’re told 3/4 weeks into their preseason that they’re not likely to get game time and maybe want to look elsewhere or go out on loan.
Recent July signings - Loemba, Rabitsch & Barton
Recent Aug signings - Andreu, Fyvie & Safranko
We got Andreu and Safranko on the back of them doing a preseason with their club then being told they weren’t likely to feature much!!
Patience needed!!

He may be talking about Loan Signings. in which case i doubt many English players will be told they are going on loan yet and some might do depending on their clubs signings

the key, and glaringly obvious to most, is avoid one up front.
so, we are in the market for a striker.
he won’t drop Sow cause he’s in love with him.
so, hopefully, it’s Sow and A.Nother

Neilson was quoted as saying we were priced out the English market just last week (quotes from the Courier below). This is what i'm on about by finding his comments worrying and uninspiring.
"Neilson said: “We have a really good academy and a lot of quality young players coming through so we need to make sure there is a pathway for them to emerge but we will be looking far and wide for potential signings.
“Nothing is closed off to us.“I think you have to do that these days because the market in England has become so inflated.
“It is very expensive to get players from clubs down south now unless they have no experience.“So to get people of the standard you require it becomes very costly.
“That means you have to look at different markets for that value for money and we are very open to doing that."

Yup, that's what I was getting at in my last post. He is now saying that nothing has happened because the English teams aren't back for pre-season training.
If we aren't looking at the English market, why do we have to wait for them to return for pre-season before we sign anyone?

I read it all as he’s just giving sound bites and (hopefully) things are progressing behind the scenes. He’s previous for bluffing

I hope so, i share a lot of posters views that we can't play the same tactics with one up front given our current squad.

Think we will be fine and Neilson will get a few new boys in (hopefully st, winger, creative midfielder and cb) before the start of the league. League cup is a good test for us to start and im sure he will blood a few youngsters in these games aswell befoe the new boys come in for the final one or two games.
Should be interesting in seeing how the mob across the road do this year with pretty much a whole new squad as it hasnt worked out for us in the past few seasons.

Lee McCulloch on Gauld,
"He has not been spoken about but when people of that calibre are available it would be foolish not to look at it," McCulloch said.
"That would be one we'll probably have a meeting this afternoon about and if he is available then obviously he would be of interest."

McCulloch on Shankland from same article..
Scottish Championship side United have, though, made an offer for former Ayr United striker Lawrence Shankland and are awaiting his response.
The 23-year-old scored 34 goals last term and is now a free agent, with Sunderland and Swansea City also having been linked with him.
"I believe there has been a good offer put to him, so it is just waiting to see what is going to happen," McCulloch said.
"He is a fantastic player and I think we are just going to need to give that one a little bit of time and see where it ends up."

He also says
The manager has certainly turned around the mentality since he has come in and hopefully myself and Gordon can enhance that even further," he said.
"It is getting that winning mentality and actually playing nasty at times to not want to get beaten. It comes from training at the highest level every day."
This is good to hear especially the second last sentence.

I tell you something, IF, and its a big if... we manage to sign Shankland and Gauld - what a buzz that would give everyone for the start of the season. I'd feel like that would guarantee us the best possible chance of automatic promotion since we've been down here and to be honest I feel like as fans we would be well within our rights to fully expect it.

From what I’ve been told, it’s not necessarily either or. Ogren’s willing to get both, but the fee Aalborg are after is unrealistic. If they come down, we’ll deal, if not, we’ll move on.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they put him back out on loan towards the end of August, after they’ve had a good look at him in pre-season.

Maybe just me but McCulloch's comments are a lot more honest and straight to the point than Neilson's.
That's all i really want = honesty.
Not sound bites.

And your point is?
Christ after reading pages of the post about absent posters I can begin to see why.
