Non starter imo.
P.s he's exactly the type of forward we need btw. Even more so than Shankland.
Lee McCulloch is a massive hun too and hes happy enough to be here.
True.
But i'd be amazed if.
1) Lafferty wanted to sign for us.
2) Sevco done business with us.
I just can't see it, sadly.
And i say sadly, because he'd be a great signing and exactly the type of player we need.

Aye, nae danger The Rangers 2012 would do business with us and no way the big stupid looking hun cunt would want to come here anyway.

what I was told today.
we are the only club with a concrete offer to Shankland.
there is an offer in for Craig Conway.
second / third hand info that we are interested in Kyle Lafferty.
and Neilson would like Harry Cochrane in (likely a loan).
make of those what you will.
1,2&4 in a heartbeat, 3, Lafferty wouldn't touch, seems to always start well enough but then ends up on the bench or loaned on, and have heard it's not always for futba reasons, seemingly an arsehole in the dressing room.

Not a big fan of signing ex players.
But would anyone take Ryan Gauld back?
His career seems to be going nowhere.
I'd take him back but would he come back? Would he be deemed a failure so far by coming back to Tannadice?I guess he probably would.
But he is now approaching 24 and his career is going nowhere fast.
Coming back to Utd and playing regularly and being appreciated by a support might just be what he needs. This next season is huge for the wee man, i feel.
All our central midfielders seem to be defensive types.
When we are up against teams who put everyone behind the ball we don't have a player who can unlock defences or provide that wee bit of magic.
He could.
Agreed. He's not just a 10 anymore either and could play as more of an orthodox central midfielder which is what we really need alongside Butcher.

I think McCulloch's perception of Utd and the support has shifted considerably by being here.

What positions do you think were after, striker centre mid and winger??, after ashgars interview I can’t see a return for Conway etc (can’t imagine he’d be interested anyway) as he spoke about signing younger players, wonder if we’ll be back in for rossiter from rangers aloud to leave on a free???

Spot on I'd say. Quoted as 2 or 3 signings and I feel like those are the exact positions we need to fill. Plus another GK obviously. Benji had a great last few games but cost us points last year, simple as that. Need a strong goalie to challenge him I feel.

For what it’s worth I’ve been told deniz isn’t signing but I know he is numbered today so never no

Exactly this.
But the players we get in these 3 positions must be quality. And you know what? Need to be winners.
Not intimidated by the size of the club or because (Heaven forbid) our supporters expect us to beat Alloa away.

Gauld apparently free to leave Sporting.

Gauld been told by Sporting Lisbon that he’s free to find a new club.
Hopefully with the new behind the scenes setup at the club, he sees Dundee United as the best place to get his career back on track.

Do we still "own" 25% of him?

How does that work if he gets released?

what’s 20% of 0?

I think if we did manage to somehow sign Gauld he would be an absolute star for us.

Is the ‘20% ownership’ not just a 20% future sell on fee which almost certainly won’t materialise? Please correct me if I’ve got that wrong.

Sunderland take over now doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen, and shankland was a target of the new “regime”, can only be good

Beginning to look like we may get him by default as all the other runners some to be pulling out/signing other targets. Feel him and his representatives may have tried playing clubs against each other and it may have back fired.

This is my thinking also.

sounds like it.
I mean, I thought he was a shoe in for a January pre contract somewhere. But his representatives look like they wanted to ‘play the game’
I believe we have agreed a signing on fee (£150k was the figure) and a 3 year deal. Was told he wants a 2 year deal. 2 with the option of another would be the compromise.
However, we can’t wait til Aug 31 for him.

If it is to happen it has to happen soon imo.
We cant be fucking about this window we need to get our main targets in sooner rather than later and have them ready for the first league game on the 3rd of August.
I do expect us to make 1/2 more after the start of the season until the window closes but having them in the earlier the better for me.

Point well made about not waiting for Shankland, I'd give him until Friday to make up his mind. We waited months of Fyvie when he was signing also, you either want to play for Dundee United or you don't, the club is bigger than any player, I for one wouldn't let a striker who has had one good five months in the championship dick us about.

I'd say give Shankland till Wednesday.
That's 1 week on since we made our approach public knowledge.
If he's not signed by then, he's not going to (unless by default of not getting a move elsewhere).
Fuck hanging on for him whilst him and his Agent try to engineer a move to Portsmouth or somewhere.
