Saturday our first pre season game takes us to Methil to play East Fife. Team have only been back a few days but i expect a win.
Who plays?
Imagine both Smith and Sporle will start.
Sow and Clark up front?
Offline
Seigrist
Smith Connolly Reynolds sporle
Mcmullan harkes butcher robson
Sow Clark
Full strength to start with, then wholesale changes throughout game I would imagine
Offline
Harkes is injured and hasn't trained with the squad yet.
Would expect both full backs to play and would like to see some of the young players involved such as Glass, Banks etc

Absolutely zero promotion of this game from the club (at time of writing).

Certainly not in the build up to the game this weekend, there was the original announcement of the 3 friendlies and dates against East Fife, Brechin City and Dumbarton.
It is disappointing that not more has been done to promote the game even if only a friendly to attract support.
As far as these games go it would be good to see if Robbie does experiment with a front two partnership ahead of the Betfred cup kicking off and I feel that a paring of Sow and Clark may be effective given good service to them. of course adding Shankland if possible would on paper be an excellent addition and I would assume he would be guaranteed a starting place if he came except if injured or suspended.
Sow/Clark, Sow/Shankland or Shankland/Clark would all be good attacking options up front I feel.
Would it be to greedy to hope for an other striker as well?

And still the new regime, like past regimes seem to be oblivious to the amateur show that is our media/communications/arabzone department, how they have gotten away with this sub standard product for so long amazes me.

Seen East Fife advertising it as a Dundee United XI and it's £10 I think?

I believe they are still trying to get Safranko signed.

That would also be a good option if it comes off but I reckon that the asking price that Aalborg are wanting then wages and agent fees as well could well put an end to that move.
Who knows what the actual fee Aalborg are wanting but I have seenng a variety of asking prices ranging from £500k to £1M, the latest figure being in the range of £750k - £800k.
In my opinion that is kind of crazy money for most Premiership clubs outside the Old Firm to be spending these days never mind a Championship club.

Could the announcement of our offer to shankland be meant as a bit of pressure on Aalborg?
Ie, we are looking at other options - so either work with us or be left with safranko (who presumably still isn't it their plans?)

That's a very good suggestion: I thought it was daft to announce the club was in for Shankland in such a public manner, but that may have been the purpose.

Correct, but I'm still taken aback by how little United have done to drum up some interest. A lot of Arabs don't actually know that this game is happening.

Our communication continues to frustrate, as you indicate BB.
Don't you think it'll mainly be a young squad which turns out for this match?

For all we know, it could be kids first half, senior players for the 2nd half. I remember at East End Park when McNamara hooked everyone except Andy Robertson one pre season.

Agreed! Very little coming out from the club. I don;t mind us being quiet about signing players etc but some everyday coverage from pre season would be good.

They will announce line up an hour before kick off aswell so no giving much time for people to go or not if full squad or youths.
Going to be the same with the Brechin and Dumbarton games next weekend.

Heading to Brechin but drawing the line at Dumbarton after the last couple of trips...

Utd's social media department seem to not give much of a fuck anymore.
Zero details about East Fife match (or any of the subsequent friendlies).
Zero effort to get the fans excited for the new season.
Here is (for an example) Inverness CT's post earlier on giving their fans info on the squads for their two coming friendlies i.e. letting them know if it's first team or kids.

EAST-FIFE.... <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<SHUDDER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
That name still sends me into shock....
Some United fans made a bit of an arse of themselves at the equaliser that day (it that is the cause of the shudder).
But not to be outdone, our rivals surpassed that behaviour three years later at Kilbowie (same season we finally won the Scottish, to compound their misery).
The Methil game, East Fife had Ray Charles in goals, but we struggled to get the ball past him.

Relatively strong line up
Siegrist
Smith
Connolly
Reynolds
Robson
Bouhenna
C Smith
Banks
M Smith
Glass
Sow
Ref is getting on a bit, it's him off Bargain Hunt.

Can anyone who was at the match today tell us how it went? Who played well, who didn't etc.

First half
Bouhenna is a centre midfielder now 100% can’t see him going back, best player on ball wee have in team, Cammy smith looked hungry to make a impact was impressed slightly deeper than a number 10, Scott banks looked promising can imagine he’ll play a part this season, Liam smith looked ok but if he would have looked better with a competent winger in front of him and finally it may be different with full strength side however if we sign Lawrence shankland he won’t score have the goals he scored at Ayr, sow is so isolated up front it’s unbelievable never had one chance the whole half, on sow looks quicker and and I’m no saying he was fat but she’s leaned up
2nd half
Deniz will be signed, started the goal with a great throw to half way line to Clark he then slipped it through to appere who then pulled it back to Clark, appere looks a totally different player to what I’ve seen before never stopped running, booth and chalmers were good in particular chalmers he has a absolute wand of a left foot and superb technique, would like to see him on the right rather than left and cutting inside and having a ping
All in it was actually a decent performance missed out loads of players but they were standouts

Thanks for that SM.
