Before his injury, Shankland got 28 in 26 games.
Then got 6 in the next 15.
6 in 15 is roughly what Safranko & Clark hit last season.

No worries for me. You can say that for any signing thats been made.
Agreed but it sounds like we are trying to break the bank for him and he is a very different mould to Safranko. He’ll be expected to hit the ground running and I really hope if we do get him he replicates his form from the first half of last season.

Fingers crossed that is because Jobbie rushed him back and he will be fully fit after a proper chance to rest and recover.

Does anyone else have a nagging feeling that Shankland might’ve just gone through one of those periods in the first half of of the season just finished where he was riding the momentum of his excellent league one season and his confidence was so sky high that everything he touched turned to gold, but he might not be as good as his goal scoring numbers suggest and he could end up being a bit of a bust and struggle to reach double figures?
I think signing him would be a great coup for us and I’d be delighted if it happened but I can’t knock this slight worry.
I must confess, i too worry about that a bit.
I also worry he may be a bit too similiar in quality and stature to Nicky Clark.

I think he is very different to Clark?

Just google'd him he is 6ft 1. More a Safranko stature

I'm not convinced that Shankland is the player some think he is, and agree with kingdomarab's concerns.
And also 'half agree' with Tek, his scoring record reminds me of Nicky Clark to a point, in that Nicky had a purple patch at one point in his career too. But Shankland is a taller and dare I say it, bulkier boy than Clark.
Finally, I see where SmedDUm was coming from with his 'Prolific Strikers' post: good point, well made.

I think he’d be a very good signing.
Online!
I would be happy for this to happen as, however will take the story with a dose of caution as always with paper talk.
Sunderland have been a side I have seen linked with him on more than one occasion.

I didn't think he looked that big tbh.
Then again i'm 6ft 4, so maybe i'm not seeing him as tall as he actually is.
P.s. i didn't think Safranko was that big either

I think (and hope) he would be a good signing, but worry a wee bit about a rumour I heard that he has an underlying problem with a joint in one of his knees that has never responded to treatment properly.
This could be untrue, of course. But came from a normally good and trusted source.
I would hope if/when we put him through his medical it will be a stringent one.

The only worry I have is, you can sign the most prolific scorers, but if you don't play to their strengths you've just got a "shirt filler," I think sometimes managers have a way they want to play come hell or high water, and try to shoehorn players into positions that are alien and and not very condusive to their style of play, I hope I'm wrong but if he does sign I hope he gets better service than was given to the front player/s last year.

I fear this also. Shankland had Moffat next to him who is extremely intelligent and did a power of running for him which suited shankland down to the ground.
He also looked very good against us as McDaid had his best games in an Ayr shirt against us and put in a lot of dangerous balls.
We have players potentially capable (Pawlett and McMullan, however, I was extremely critical of McMullans end product until post-March) but I fear Neilson will be too stubborn to go two up two and get balls into the box, however, I also think we should have much more attacking threat from deep with two attack minded fullbacks which we haven’t had for years.

Totally agree with this ^^^^
Shankland is not for 4-2-3-1. He needs a partner as he showed with Moffat last season. Think back to Goodies return. Superb when playing alongside Daly but offered nothing in a 4-2-3-1.
The one plus is that Shankland can score all different types of goals. He’ll be in the right place for one of Mcmullan’s squaffed low balls into the box 😋

the only thing I find odd in all this is that he hasn’t been snapped up yet

One thing that might work in our favour is that he knows Liam Smith from Ayr, came through the Youths at Dons with Cammy Smith, and of course Pawlett and Reynolds too. I know its not the most important thing when deciding who to sign for but still.

We seem to be casting aspersions re LS.
Maybe it's nerves on our part in case we don't get him.
But some good points raised -
- where's the clamoring for him (post #144)
- won't fit our style/won't get service (posts #143 & 144)
- fitness (post #140)
- and can I mention again my concern how some strikers score for fun, are attracted to another club & find that they can't score in the proverbial barrel of lady bits. Cue Stevie May.
But like I say maybe we're being too negative & if we did sign him we'll sell 500 ST's & he'll bag a modest 25 goals for us this season.

I don’t care about ST’s. Well I do but that’s more for the club to worry about than me. Your other points may all be valid but I don’t think he would score any less than Safranko did if the laddie keeps fit. There may well be interest from others now our interest is in the public domain so I hope that isn’t a mistake on our part.

I personally think he would score a lot more than Pav did last season. I loved Pav but he missed some absolute sitters that you would have to expect Shankland would have easily put away. I saw him live in the flesh 4 times last season and in 3 of those games he looked like a player that was destined for an Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts type club or low/mid English Championship team. The last one was the 2-1 at Tannadice and he looked miles off it. Hopefully if we do manage to pull this off then we get the absolute predator that he was in the first half of the season. He was unplayable at times.

Can hardly see 200 people buying a season ticket at the price they are now at if we signed him never mind 500.

Put 500 on the gate then maybe?
Ok, 200.
