The opening game of the tournament witnessed victory registered for 'Make It Easy On Yourself' by The Walker Brothers. It will now progress through to the 2nd Round as a consequence of said victory. Eliminated at the first hurdle are the tracks 'Streets of London' by Ralph McTell, 'Dexter's Tune' by Randy Newman and 'The Drugs Don't Work' by The Verve.

Songs Background - "Always on My Mind" is a rueful and nostalgic love song by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson. The song was first released by singer B.J Taylor in 1970. It has subsequently been covered by many Artists since including Willie Nelson and The Pet Shop Boys, but most famously by Elvis Presley. Presley had recently separated from his Wife, Priscilla at the time of release, giving his version added poignancy and emotion.

Songs Background - The track featured on Young's 1970 album 'After The Goldrush'. The track features just a piano and Young's voice giving it a 'stripped back' and fragile feel compared to other guitar led tracks on the album. The song was intended to be Young comforting a romantic interest who's relationship with him had came to an end.

Written By - Morris Albert
Songs Background - The song was written 2 years previously by Brazillian songwriter Morris Albert. An ode to the remorse he felt over the break-up of his partner. The song has consequently been covered by many artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Glen Campbell, Johnny Mathis and Petula Clark. But none covered as memorably as Simeone's 'heartfelt' version at the 1976 Montreaux Jazz Festival.

Nine Simeone - Feelings 

From about the 7 minute mark she goes somewhere else.

She goes totally improvised and starts making up her own lyrics/harmonies/melody.

It's almost hard to watch because she looks pained but that last minute or so is utterly mesmerising and shows what a formidable talent she was.
