Now that the regular season's over, thought it'd be a good time to look back at the signings we've made this season and their contribution to the cause.
Pavol Safranko - 8.5 - Our best player since the 14/15 season, still things he needs to improve but I hope manage to keep a hold of him.
Mark Reynolds - 7 - Given us real steel and grit at the back, which has been vital to us grinding out some ugly wins.
Nicky Clark - 7 - Spent the first half of the season out injured, but his goal to game ratio since returning's impressive.
Calum Butcher - 6.5 - The hard bastard in the middle of the park we've needed since he left the first time, better all round player this time around.
Mark Connolly - 6 - Has a few scary moments, but mostly been solid, and gives us a vocal presence at the back.
Ian Harkes - 6 - Hot and Cold, when he's good, he looks a real find, when he's off it, he's a total liability in the middle of the park. Talent there but needs to find consistency.
Peter Pawlett - 6 - Suspect he's not been fully fit since joining, but is a match winner when he's on form.
Fraser Aird - 6 - Hopeless at taking people on or running with the ball, but his set-piece delivery's the best we've had since Barry Robson, the fact he finished top of the league's assist charts having barely played the second half of the season says it all.
Callum Booth - 5.5 - Solid if unspectacular signing, been about what I expected from him, cost us a few goals but not really had any nervy moments since playing alongside the boys we brought in in January.
Rachid Bouhenna - 5.5 - Started well but holes started to appear in his game around Halloween time, not a bad squad option at this level but unlikely to ever be first choice for us.
Paul Watson - 5.5 - Has actually done surprisingly well for us, his positional sense at right back is hopeless, but he's done a lot better than I and most expected when we signed him.
Charlie Seaman - 5.5 - Terrible debut, but grew into the team after that, first proper right back we've had since dropping into the Fundesliga, thought he gave us a good balance before being dropped for no apparent reason, would be playing him at RB over Watson come the playoffs, but can't see it.
Frederic Frans - 5 - Been OK, but is nowhere near aggressive or hard enough for a guy his size, not a bad squad option at this level, but would get rid if we go up.
Benjamin Siegrist - 5 - Needs replaced as first choice regardless of what happens. Has his good days, unfortunately his bad days are probably the reason we're not going up as champions.
Osman Sow - 4 - Shown his ability in flashes, so not too worried about his lack of goals yet. Looks very much a hot and cold player though, when he's good he'll be a matchwinner, when he's not, we'd be as well playing with 10 men.
Cammy Smith - 4 - Same as his first spell, limited to one position, and we have better players in that position. Should we go up, we'll need even better players in that position. Think he's very much a Championship player.
Morgaro Gomis - 3 - Signed as a squad option, but unfortunately he's finished, pressing and harrassing the opposition was Jimmy's game and now the legs have gone. Least we got to sing the song one last time.
Aidan Nesbitt - 3 - Billy King with a Man Bun.
Craig Curran - 2 - Knew at the time we never should've signed him, especially a 3 year deal, done nothing to prove me wrong. Huge thank you to Agent McIntyre for getting us out of that one, amongst other things.
Matej Rakovan - 2 - Can only remember one really bad game from him, and then we never saw him again. Was he worse than Benji? Fuck know, but I'll not miss him.
Yannick Loemba - 2 - Bra fives player, that's about it. Think the only Rangers he'll be joining is the Berwick version.
Christoph Rabitsch - 1 - Said when I saw him up at Brechin in pre-season that he wasnae a footballer, can only think of one player that turned out to be worse than him.
Adam Barton - 0 - OYF, never seen anything like it. One of the most instantly hateable players to pull on a United shirt, superseded only by Coll Donaldson.
Ross Laidlaw - N/A - Can't comment as I've no even seen the highlights of the Morton game.
Sam Wardrop - N/A - Likewise, missed the first game of the season, and never went to any Fizzy Pop games, so can't comment, but the fact Robbie was keen to get rid before his injury doesn't bode well for him.

Harsh on a few but agree with most

JD, you've missed out my love child Jamie Robson!
Think you've given some of these guys higher ratings or rankings that I may have, especially those in defensive areas, and Fraser Aird.

I’d go a little lower on Safranko. I’m still having nightmares about the QOS match!! Hope he proves his worth though in these last few matches.
I’d give more for Butcher - he has been massive for us since his return

Robson’s been with us for years though, this is just ranking this season’s signings.
Knew people would have different views on Aird, but you can’t argue with his numbers, 13 assists IIRC, it’s no coincidence that Safranko’s output’s about halved since Aird left.

Safranko higher
Clark lower
Reynolds higher
Butcher higher
Harkes higher
Pawlett higher
Siegrist lower
Rest I’d pretty much agree with

I will give my ratings after the Play-Off's are concluded.
The next 2-4 games will prove who the 'big game' players are in our squad and who wants to really move 'Heaven and Earth' to bring success to Dundee United. Who will demand the ball. Who will try and be our matchwinner and Hero. And who will run themselves into the ground and give everything they have for the cause.
For example the likes of (for me) Cammy Smith, Peter Pawlett and Osman Sow have been hugely disappointing since they signed in January.
But all 3 (on form) could be big players for us. The time really is now to show it. All or any of the 3 could become overnight heroes with even one great performance.

Think Pawlett’s had a few games where he’s looked really good (Morton at home, Dunfermline away, St. Mirren in the Cup). But agree on the other two. Think in the case of all 3, particularly Sow and Pawlett, it’s down to injuries and fitness issues. Hope Smith proves me wrong but I have my doubts.

I agree our opinions may be very different after the play offs
I am a bit worried now as ICT seem to be in some form. These are tough matches and will be the real test of how good this side is
Cammy Smith I feel has not had his chance yet. There are few that still need to show if they are just decent or can be really good for us long term
Come on United!!

Imo, Inverness will be a tougher game than who ever is in the playoff final, there a big powerful team

Would have agreed a month or two ago but Hamilton seem much more of a threat under Brian Rice and St Mirren have improved greatly since we battered them in the cup.
I’m confident we’ll get promoted this year but unsure if it’s my heart prevailing over my head.
