Next seasons squad

I know we've still 2(possibly 4) games to go but I'm a bit bored - so who do you keep and who do you get release if you are robbie?

Dos it matter what league we are in or should we be aiming for a similar quality of player.

I'd keep:

Siegreist
Booth
Mcmullen
Sow
Clark
Safranko
Cammy Smith
Matty smith
Robson
Butcher
Bouhenna
Reynolds
Harkes
Pawlett
Connolly

Any more or any less?

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Keep
—————————
McMullan
Sow
Clark
Robson
Butcher
Harkes
Pawlett
Connolly

Replace if better options are out there
—————————
Siegrist - Second choice keeper, though would rather bring Deniz back
Booth - Second choice LB
Frans
Stanton
Bouhenna
Cammy Smith
Watson

Incomings
—————————
1st Choice Keeper
Liam Smith
Reynolds
New LB - Wallace?
CM - The boy Lindsay at County’s out of contract, looks a tidy player
At least one winger, hopefully two.
#10 - Gauld’s not exactly set the heather on fire, so coming back might be his best option.
Safranko

Punt
—————————
Murdoch
Barton
Toshney
King
Matty Smith
Rabitsch
Wardrop
Scobbie
Edge
Aird
Laidlaw
Seaman
Loemba

Re: Next seasons squad

Certainly looking at another window with plenty of movement but probably more out than in as there is a crazy amount of deadwood still hanging around.

- 1st choice keeper

- a backup right back (ideally someone capable of playing at RB and CB)
- 1st choice left back

- backup for butcher & backup for Harkes

- winger  to compete with McMullan and Pawlett (ideally someone slightly older to allow McMullan to develop for a couple of years behind him)
- a winger/striker to compete and cover all across the front
- target man to replace Safranko (resigned to losing him now so it eases the pain when Real or Man City swoop in and I can enjoy seeing my new hero at least twice more (hopefully many many more))

There’s probably more work I’d do but that would be more priority till we can get more out the door.

I can see a fair amount of wheeling and dealing through the summer no matter what league we are in.

Re: Next seasons squad

I'm not too sure if any of our defensive options would be strong enough if promoted. Don't think anyone has prioritised central defenders, but none of the pairings fill me with optimism/confidence, although that is thinking of partnerships rather than individuals.

Often it's more down to the blend rather than to the individual.
In our league this season there were two teams who blended well.
Not rich with individual talent but Ayr United & Alloa Athletic were good blends.
Hate to say it on a Dundee United forum but Dundee's team in 1961 was a right mixter-maxter of individuals but was a classic example of how a team that knits together well can beat a team of individuals.

Of course our team of the 80s had both - brilliance & blend.

So if Robbie can get our team teaming then we can maybe do ok with what we've got.

All gone plus 5 Kids. The cull really has started. That's 8 gone in a few days. Could well still be more

Which still leaves us with a first team squad of 24!!!! That needs to come down!

Rabbit loemba and aird next please

Absolutely.

Robson’s proven himself to be a decent option as a defensive winger and can fill in at LB if required. Good squad player to have.

Cammy Smith’s second spell so far has been almost identical to his first, one or two decent games, but is hamstrung by the fact that he can only play one position, and like last time, it’s a position we already have better options in and should look to improve even further with a Gauld type signing. Unfortunately, I think Cammy Smith’s a championship player, and particularly if we make it up to the Premiership this season, I just don’t see where he fits in.

Not a bad base to build from. Won’t require the turnover of recent years. 5 or 6 players all that’s required I think.

In the Premiership as it's now called, I think that sort of line up would have us at the wrong end of the table, sorry to say.

Based on that line up, I'd be worried about next season.

I'd get rid of Seigrist and replace with a first choice keeper, get a first choice LB in before Booth and a first choice CB in before Connolly.

I'd also want at least one player who could seriously challenge for CM and another winger for each side for competition.

I'm not sold on Sow, but I'm happy for him to prove himself.

Oooooohhhh yeeeeeaaaaaah!!

How does a squad of 24 need to come down?

Some players absolutely need replaced but a squad of 25/26 is what we need.

Have a squad of 19/20 and a few injuries mean you can’t even name an entire bench ie Queen of the South in the second half of this season.

Re: Next seasons squad

Robbie has said previously he wants to work with a smaller group - also we dont have the quality if we get promoted

Re: Next seasons squad

In theory

2 goalies

4 full backs
4 centre halves

5 wingers
4/5 centre mics

4 strikers

Out of that list we’d need a goalie
Another right back
I think one of the centre halves will go
1 new left back booth I can see leaving

3new wingers, potentially 4 depending on where mcmullan will play long term
2/3 new centre mids

And two new strikers
