Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

I find this an interesting move by the club and am hoping that it provides a degree of success for all parties involved, although only time will tell.

I was interested in how this would work regarding work permits for incoming players although I guess any individual with a dual nationality passport with an EU country might get around that for now.   I add for now given Brexit on the horizon I guess that will not work on leaving the UK.

Even if this does not work out as well as perhaps anticipated, I will not be overly critical of the club for trying something different and looking to another market for bringing in players rather than staying in the UK or Europe.

I think it will only work for us if the quality of player on offer is going to be a first on the team sheet and not a fringe player. Not only first on the team sheet but also a skill level above what we can find elsewhere.
Maybe something special here for us, but on the other side of the coin it could end up with homesick lads sitting in a local hotel running up expensive bills. I would say to TA if you bring any bring 2, and put them in digs where they can be "parented" a bit.

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

South American's have never fared well at Tannadice.

Nonetheless, this is a very interesting move by Utd and i look forward to seeing if this can bring us an exciting player in the not too distant future.

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

The effort in trying to do something is to be applauded.

I wonder if when you are young then presumably you can get around work permit requirements for older players.

Likes of Messi come in from South America to Barca academy when they are very young and then progress

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

Said it to others on twitter, wonder if they are bringing over the lad George Acosta? American playing for Boca's reserves. Highly regarded player.

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

I think its a good thing - i doubt either side wants to see absolute dross come across and sitting in the premier inn.

More likely the agreement is going to be in place to allow a European market for selling players - if that's the case, are we looking at lads of English championship level?

I wonder if we get the players for free and that's the end of it OR if they sell a player to a team down in England, do we scoop a small percentage of the fee? What's in it for who

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

I doubt we would see any percent of a fee for them selling any player we have had on loan for a year or so. Did we give Raith Rovers anything when we sold David Goodwillie to Blackburn?

The only thing i can see Dundee Utd getting out this is a couple of players on loan at the cost of us paying their flights and accommodation if anything is to come of it

Raith rovers were purely a developmental loan for goodie - he was put close to home where he could get game time and develop.

Boca are not sticking them along a few miles along the road to develop - they are putting them here (i'd presume) in order to sell them as they know that valuations in the English market in particular are higher than anywhere else.

The fact we have an agreement makes me think that both sides have something to gain - otherwise why be tied into an agreement - why not just phone Tony ashgar and say we've got a boy needing game time - fancy taking him.

Out of interest, why do you think they've chosen United of all the teams in the world? Why not Aberdeen or lillie or derby or rotherham or whoever?

I think the only thing we will gain is a potential top talent spending a season at us on loan.

They have chosen Utd due to the Tony knowing the guy at the other end hence why its Utd and not Aberdeen or the others you mention.

...and he was an international!! Though I didn’t think he had improved much by the time of the World Cup 😂

Not sure how the work permits are for young lads from South America but this can only be positive development imo

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

If we end up with equivalent of the million Honduran duds of the late 90s it'll be awful. If we get the equivalent of the likes of Victor or SerGio it'll be great. Who knows? Will be a fun ride though

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

The way I see it (might be wrong, but my hunch) is that Boca will send us a player/s that they reckon though possibly aren't quite good enough to make it with them could still have a future in British football at a decent level and thus could make then a few bob into the bargain (using DUFC as a shop window), rather than just releasing them.

If the player/s don't do the business, we are not out of pocket. If he/they do, Boca can possibly cash in on them for good money. Mr Asghar has no doubt pointed out the likes of Gauld, Armstrong and Robertson as an example of players who have moved on from Tannadice to bigger clubs for 7 figures+ in recent times. And Boca have probably figured 'why not?', regards giving us some of their players to put in the shop window.

It would seem a 'win-win' for both parties.

P.s I reckon they will send us at least 2 players. Big culture change for just one player to come over on his own. Probably send two over so they have company in each other. Just a guess.

P.P.S i think it's pretty cool tbh to have a relationship with Boca. One of the World's truly great football clubs.

Re: Boca Juniors tie up..

I've been thinking about this as a 1 way street. Do you think theres room for a couple of our most talented kids to go over to Argentina for a few months and see what life at a massive and very different culture is like? Might help them develop their aspirations and let them train with the best kids in Argentina.

Young banks would probably take as much from that as he would from a subdued appearance at clyde?

Likewise our coaches could be travelling and getting training tips/techniques or help interpreting training and game data.

This could be great if it's more than just a few loan players to us
