He did well with aggressive teams that had better players than the opposition at Oldco and being hard to beat at other clubs.
His ideas are out of date and his stuberness to stick to what he knows is a killer in fitba terms.
Get him tae fuck.

I'd argue Martin O'Neill had better players at Celtic when McLeish won the Treble (Larsson, Hartson, Sutton, Petrov, Lambert etc).
That said, in the here and now it looks very hard to see how he survives that result yesterday.
Think only a crushing victory against san Marino can save his job (maybe not even that).

What are the rumors? That article doesn’t say much other than he’s under stress. Was the wrong appointment from the beginning. Who’s next? Another member of the old boys’ club?

Watching his interviews recently he's seemed a bit slow, struggling for words. Confused almost.
Seen quite a lot of people commenting that it reminds them of relatives who had early on-set alzheimers.

Sadly Tek thats exactly what it looks like.
Best for everyone if he quietly goes now.

Best getting him out of there then, for the sake of himself and family. He’s not going to get much sympathy the way things are going. Steve Clarke seems to be the obvious choice but couldn’t see him taking it. Not with the recent shite he’s had to put up with too. Davie Moyes maybe? Hardly inspiring mind you.

Never thought McLeish was the right man in the first place and his tenure hasn't changed my mind. However I really do feel for the guy if his health is letting him down. His commitment to the cause has never been in doubt either on the park or off it - so if he needs to step back for his own sake then he should get to go with appropriate plaudits and not being castigated and hounded out.

Whatever happens here, you can be sure the SFA will go about it in the most awkward fashion.
Of course, AMcL should never have been appointed in the first place.
However, when his friend Alan McRae, who has known McLeish for over 130 years and was in charge of his testimonial events in the late 80s (that's the 1980s) decided to give him a dig out due to McLeish's tax affairs brought on by Ibrox connections, McRae should have been dismissed as President of the SFA.
Except he can't be dismissed: the SFA is like the Royal Family, with a succession in line to take over, Rod Petrie waiting in the wings in the manner of Prince Charles. Of course Petrie will be in before Charlie ever gets his chance on the throne. The SFA, like the Royal Family, is answerable to nobody, even although both private groups get much of their cash from us, the public.
As I say, McLeish should never have been near the national team again, and this is before his illness is factored in: for his so-called friend McRae to put him in the firing line is reprehensibly irresponsible.
The SFA will now dress McLeish's removal up, and ask that he be given privacy at this difficult time. At least his family will have a contract paid up to cover the outstanding EBT tax issue.
But, and this might be controversial for some, but really shouldn't be: Alex McLeish's illness should be discussed, fully and out in the open. Not necessarily in relation to McLeish himself, but in terms of the causes and treatments.
Perhaps if McRae had had a fuller understanding of his associate's illness, he would have known not to put him in the spotlight. And I reckon the much maligned Tartan Army have more knowledge of the issues facing Mcleish, as it is notable their anger is directed towards the inept SFA, with their chants and the vast majority of social media criticism of the situation.
Finally, with treatment and good support, I suspect Alex McLeish could well make a full or partial recovery from his situation.

Good post Pat. I wasn't aware of the McRae involvement. You are of course correct that the real issue is the 'jobs for the boys' SFA. Scottish football will continue to decline if we don't get some transparency and ultimately a responsible meritocracy running the show.

Won't happen in our lifetime if ever. As much as it pains me to say it, England are now light years ahead of us--not just on the park but how they go about everything. The fact that a tool like Malky McKay is so high up says it all---imagine him being involved in the English set up? Not a chance his dim-witted arse and (alleged) racist shite would last a minute.

For the best, and at least that's a huge part of his tax bill from the EBT years been paid off.
Well done the SFA.
