No sure we've maximised his potential. Like his effort and love his passion.
Hard to predict how well he will do, expect best with better service and a confident on form team but hard tae predict.

Had no hope of keeping him before the new owners came in.

Re: Pavol Safranko

Tin helmet on and all that pish, but I really wouldn't be looking to spend too much to keep Pavol.

He is decent in the air and works hard. Of that there is no-doubt.

But I just find him a bit 1-dimensional.

His general first touch and link-up play is quite poor, from what I've seen of him (admittedly not as much as some of you fellas). And he's not the type of forward who can play off the shoulder of a defender, out-strip them for pace, run in on goal one-one-one with the Keeper and finish.

If we were in the Championship he would still do a job, but I wouldn't be wanting to spend anymore than say 50-75k on signing him.

If we are playing Premiership I reckon we could do (and will need) better, personally.

For all his plaudits he only has 11 goals in March. Scott McDonald notched 16 for us last season under Laszlo and was, yet, pretty heavily criticised at times.

Re: Pavol Safranko

Agree but suspect we think we can buy for 100k (tops I would pay) make better and sell on for say 500k after scoring 25 next year

Not a chance he would score 25 in the Prem.

Don't think he would even do that in the Championship tbh.

Re: Pavol Safranko

You have to remember he has been starved of help for alot of games this season.

It will come down to what league we are in and what price they want and what we want to pay.

Agree, to an extent.

A few of his goals came from Fraser Aird set-pieces. Now he's gone Safranko's goals have dried up a little.

We need much much more from Pawlett, Cammy Smith, McMullan, Nesbitt etc in terms of making chances for the forwards).

hopefully they give him more service and we see them shine from now to May.

Re: Pavol Safranko

He’s not a top 6 premier league player.  Bottom half premier league we’d need better in and paying a fee for a back up isn’t really the way forward.  Championship I’d keep, but I’d get a pacy player alongside him and at least 1 out and out winger to supply him and use his strengths.

The £1m man tho, who makes up this pish.

Re: Pavol Safranko

Number of goals don't reveal all.
He's the best player we've got.
Could easily play in a higher standard.
When's the last time we hit the byeline?
Fyvie a fortnight ago & he chipped it gently into the goalie's hands.
Shed end.

Re: Pavol Safranko

It's in the Sun.

Cannae see us paying the sort of money quoted, but if we could secure him, I'd be happy. He's played with poor service almost all season, but benefited from Aird's crossing ability. Nobody in the squad now appears to want to attempt the same. At the same time, Aird's lack of effort for the team possibly held Safranko back.

I agree with the first half of smedDUm's post, the second half looks like Google Translate has had a nightmare.

Robbie, as I've said before, seems to think Safranko can be a winger and a striker in the same match.

Re: Pavol Safranko

It may just be a ploy to motivate Safranko for the rest of the season. If we manage to get promoted negotiations will break down. If we stay down a deal may be arranged.
His lack of pace is what makes him only a 5/10 player.

Re: Pavol Safranko

My opinion is that Pav has been a shining light for us this year. He works harder than any striker we've had since Johnny Russell and YES he may not have the ability of a 20-goal a season striker but take him out of our squad this year and we're not even in the play-off positions. I think its baffling that people wouldn't want him in our squad for next season, no matter what division we are in.

Calling him a 5/10 player is (of course you're entitled to your opinion) very very harsh I feel. If we went into a Premiership season with Pav, Clark and Sow (once fit) I'd be fairly confident we'd get plenty success from the 3 of them with maybe another pacey striker brought in. You wont find many 6ft+ strikers who are as good as he is in the air that give you the work rate he gives us.

Big player for us in my opinion and if we can get him for a decent price (100k) then I think it would be a good investment.

He gives everything he has no doubt about that. He loses most ariel duels with CHs, Im afraid technically he is poor and as was said has no pace.  He is slightly better than Mikkelson but way of a  Daly.  Surrounded by mediocrity he looks better than he is. Hopefully Sow gets fit as he has twice the talent of Safranko.

Re: Pavol Safranko

If he was anywhere near a Daly he wouldnt be playing for Dundee United right now. Simple as that.

Hes ploughing a lone furrow up top on his own. With a proper partner I think youd see the best of him. Agree he is no Jon Daly.
Sow needs to take his roller blades off .
After safranko came off at Falkirk and sow came on they came into the game. Sow was poor.

I agree with that Beharder.

Actually think Mikkelsen is a better finisher than him btw. But he could be a bit of a fairy, whereas Pav does work hard. So swings n roundabouts.

Both reasonable players for Championship standard.

But neither good enough for where we want to be in the medium to longterm.

C'mon tae fuck. Mikkelsen was/is stinking. Safranko is a far better player.

Re: Pavol Safranko

It's a mystery to me how fans see players so very differently. A slight variation in opinion when we all watch the games is one thing, but I'm always amazed at the polar views the support can have over certain players.

It wouldn't surprise me if Safranko was on a club's radar in the top Scottish league already.

He works harder, yes. He also doesn't take to the ground every five minutes like Mikkelsen.

Ability wise though? On a par with Mikkelsen.

And i think Mikkelsen scored better goals (lob against Qots away, header against St.Mirren Irn Bru Cup Final, volley against Livi in the Play-Off game).

Šafranko has a lot to do yet to indicate to me he's a player worth spending a transfer fee on.

But it's all about opinions.

Re: Pavol Safranko

cant agree with you on that TEK. Safranko all round much better than Mikkelson imo.
