Re: January transfer window

The fact no one has signed yet and the same squad will play tomorrow with very little changes makes Robbie comments look completely foolish.  Add in the fact that he’s now saying he didn’t even speak to the new owner till Wednesday....shambolic.

Hope he can sort this but fully expect a pumping tomorrow.

Re: January transfer window

I'm as disappointed as the next person re. signings so far, but it's 4 January, technically 2 days into the window.  We've got a new corporate structure, new lines of communication and authorisation.  It was always going to take time to get that up and running.  Yes, maybe Robbie did spout too early, but what if we stumbled through a performance tomorrow and won with the 'dross'.  Would that have actually worked against him in the long run?  I think he has seen his opportunity, taken it and the wheels are in motion to make the changes we are all looking for.  It would have been ideal if that was all in place for 5 January with a week of training in the bag, but that was never going to happen.  Let's not panic, yet....

That’s Nesbitt official now.

Re: January transfer window

The main point I'm making is that his comments may turn out to be counter-productive.

We mostly would agree on which guys aren't going to do it for us, but

a) we are still having to rely on them until replacements come in, which they haven't (edit, except Nesbitt )

and

b) the contracted players have nowhere to go, as yet, even if we don't want them. They won't just fuck off for nothing.

I'm just emphasising what I've said before, but not getting in a state about it, simply being realistic.

Players who won't be here?

No-one has left. No-one has signed.

As it is we are having to go with the same squad he just said was 'nowhere near good enough' to get us out of this division.

Do you disagree with his statement?
If he hadn’t made the statement would it have made any difference to their ability?
We are on day 4 of the window -2 of which were holidays
Think we are being a bit over critical
As he said - the players need honesty and we need to use the full allotted time to get these poor players on long contracts to agree their future is better placed somewhere else

Given that the new owners have allegedly been doing due diligence for months, they should have known what was needed and had the structure in place on day 1.  We’re clearly not high up their priority list but they need to show they give a little bit of a fuck.

These boys aren't 'poor players': they haven't done well for us.

But Robbie has labelled them as not good enough, and that's my issue. If we are trying to get them moved to other clubs, at minimal cost to United, it was the wrong thing to say publicly.

That's just naïve.  They seem to be putting in place a massive amount of change (of which I have my concerns as well as hopes) and have clearly offered up some cash for strengthening the team, but because that hasn't been done in what would be breakneck speed somehow they don't care.  Come on...

Pat I don't disagree, but he knew that change was coming and he is no doubt as pissed off with them as we are.  Any person with a modicum of interest in DUFC might have struggled not to react to the capitulation to Alloa FFS.  I don't think we should read too much into it - it was clearly aimed at the players too and you never know it might be the challenge some of them need.  No point in setting a challenge if there is no intention to play them ever again - which now doesn't look like the case.  I think we've all just read it differently from how he intended it.

It’s not breakneck speed, they’ve been doing due diligence for months, it’s not naive to expect that anyone taking over a business after months of planning would be ready to go day 1, it’s common sense.

Don't agree.  At best there will be an 100 day plan - that would be the common sense approach.  Do you know what due diligence is?  It's more to do with what lawyers look at than anyone assessing the team's finer or not so fine points.  I can see your point, but I don't think they spent several months assessing the playing squad...

But they knew they needed a sporting director, knew when the transfer window opened and knew we were struggling for promotion.  That sporting director should have been appointed weeks ago ready for January.

To be fair Pat we'd hardly be wanting to move them on if we thought they were world beaters...

Robbie is simply stating what all his fellow managers will be able to see with their own eyes

And he has at least been straight with them.

I don't disagree with his statement, no.

My point is (again) we may need to still call on some of these guys at some point as we can't ship off half a squad in one month.

I guess we'll see how it all plays out.

  ^^^^this
Plus I doubt he went rogue and came out with this statement by himself
It will have been approved and discussed - it wasn’t an unsolicited rant

But to re-iterate - we have actually signed someone now!!

It would s a fair point - and looking likely more and more by the day to be the case
I’m just trying to cut RN a bit of slack and stay a little positive.

My counter was that we were fucked anyway because the boys aren’t fit to wear the shirt anyway 😂😂

Re: January transfer window

So, to sum up then.....

We are a club in limbo but there's a lot of change going on
The new owners should have realised we were shite and signed a new team before they signed the takeover deal
Robbie is right in what he said but at the same time wrong
Some unwanted players might be training alone but they might be on the bench tomorrow

It's all falling into place 😎

Re: January transfer window

Have a feeling Nesbitt will do alright for us. Safranko needs mair creativity heading to him to stop him going places in search of options. Hope they can work well together. We desperately needed change and this is the 1st.

Rumour from Scott Burns (journo) we are after Cammy Smith again. This would be a good move.
