This is risky stuff and you have to assume it's been agreed as a strategy by the new sporting director. They obviously feel that current performances are not going to see us finishing top so big shuffle of the pack. No shit.

Fair enough, but it's going to hinge on the quality of incoming and as Tek says the names being mentioned so far wouldn't make you confident that suddenly we're going on a winning run that will see us overhaul settled squads at Ayr and County

Ian Harkes.

23 years old and just 2 goals in professional football according to Wiki.

Nesbitt almost 22 and also 2 goals in pro football.

Hardly inspiring.

I hope to fuck Neilson knows what he's doing.

Are they both not defensive midfielders? - in which case goals won't be their thing and all they have to be is better than Rabitsch and Barton which shouldn't be too much of a push....

Think Harkes is attacking mid

No I think its progress and progress we have needed for 5 years

Don't take this the wrong way but I never said it wasn't progress, just saying it's quite high risk. It's been done at many clubs but is usually part of a longer term strategy, just have to wait and see if it can work for us with the number of games left
But it needs quality to make up the numbers and not sure if we're seeing that with the names mentioned so far.
Trust is such a hard thing after what we've been through

Feels a bit Mixu-esque. Bound to cause a bit of grief in the squad. Be interesting to know who’s been punted in the “gtf” group. Probably find out through the aggrieved players’ instagram—pure fire btw.

Re: January transfer window

A quick Wiki shows that Harkes was a regular in an MLS team.  MLS is a far higher standard than league 2 in Scotland, but still not good enough for some.

Must be aimed at me.

I never said he wasn't good enough for us. Truth is i don't know of the boys abilities. No-one on here does.

I do know however what type of players we need to get out of this league.

Signing a boy like this is a gamble. Mainly due the physicality and almost anti-football he will come up against in this league.

But good luck to him and i hope (obviously) he does a job for us.

Re: January transfer window

We have to be realistic about what we can get.  Yes the names mentioned are pretty uninspiring, but realistically about the best we can hope for.  The players we all want aren’t going to come to us or aren’t available.  Hopefully Neilson has a better eye for a player than the previous management.

That's the way it fkn is. If we have a new cash to spend it'll still depend on offloading players, balancing cash flow etc.

If we are going to have mair to spend than that it's wise not to tell or boast about it as agents will play for more out of our budget.

Hope the new owners can be silent but deliver and new Sporting Director can manage deliverance without crowing about it in advance.

We've all had enough of the talk. I get why some crave mair info and chat fae them but maybe let this happen without the chat and predictions fae the past and currently what RN has to do. Just fuckin get on with fucking doing it!

dont care right thing and think it will inspire the inner group (some of who know they could go too) to perform.  Transparent and honest management.  Nice

Yeah I can see this. But we are doing it at what is a make or break point in the season.
One scenario is that 2/3 quick additions fit in quickly and revitalise the team, get wins.
Other scenario is that new players take time to settle in, we draw or lose more games, lose ground and the season is fucked.

FFS there'll be nobody left.
If you see 3 lads training together at St Andrews that'll be the first team squad.

I assume tho that RN knows what he's doing...

Agree with you regarding the honest management unfortunately the modern player doesn’t seem to like honesty and can’t handle a wee bit of a bollocking(hopefully they’re the ones who have been given the big E). Either way it feels like a lot of the comoradrery that seemed there at the start is quickly seeping away.

Re: January transfer window

It is honest management from Neilson. Of that there is no question.

I really worry about this strategy though.

He is throwing all his eggs into one basket here hoping that the new signings will hit the ground running for us.

If they flop and he has to then turn again to players he's osctracised?

Well, let's just say things could very quickly turn Mixu-esq.

Re: January transfer window

Also in that article feed is Gauld to Hibs rumour and a promoted story advert  23 Things you probably didn't know about the female body. Very helpful.

Gomis an upgrade on Rabitch, Harkes an upgrade on anyone in the unwanted group.

Re: January transfer window

The decent players at training will have witnessed first hand the limited (if any) ability of certain players that Neilson inherited, they ain't blind.

If Neilson has turned round and told the Barton's, Rabbitch, Loemba, Edge, Robson that times up and he's not wasting anymore time on them then about time in my view. The fact we had a center half in midfield on Saturday said it all, Barton and Rabbitch are in fantasy land and must be pinching themselves every day at the thought of lifting a wage to play football.

There is more that could go also but for the sake of some consistency then Murdoch, Booth, King and possibly McMullan will be kept on for the rest of the season but they must Buck up their ideas and pronto.

We desperately need some depth as we can't keep up with Ross County and Ayr with a squad of 13/14 players. Gomis is available and won't break the bank, the lad Nisbett was on 5gs a week at MK so it's a wee bit of a gamble imo for a player who has not done much in his career and I've nae idea about American lad but these lads have got to be an improvement on Rabbitch and Barton etc.

Two central and two wingers. Crying out for depth in both those positions i would say.

Spoke to Frederic Frans last night. He said Nesbitt is a class act, very gifted.

Re: January transfer window

Good to see we’re bringing in some real depth to central midfield, Fyvie will be difficult to dislodge, but Stanton, for me, is more than replaceable as our starting CM, hopefully having some real competition will give him the kick up the backside he needs.

I see the boy Harkes won the Herman trophy for best college soccer player in the states back in 2016.

Stanton may well be pushed up to a ‘number 10’ role although I’m not convinced that’d work. Time will tell.

Re: January transfer window

Happy enough if Jimmy re-signs.  I know players returning very rarely works out and he is in his 30's now. When he came back the first time Jackie insisted in playing him out wide when he did actually play him and for some bizzare reason thought Rankin and Paton were a better option than him.  He will do a good job for us in this league if he just sits in the center of the park.

As for the other boys, we just have to trust RNs judgment on these guys and see what happens.
