Obviously, actual football must always be the priority. But Tannadice is badly in need of some investment, and I hope the new owners will look at it and try and at least smarten the place up a bit.
I'm imagining what one or two folk may be thinking: "FFS, we're in the Championship and we need to get out, Tannadice is fine."
The stadium has been in need of attention for at least 10 years. In 2008, I could have made the point that it needed investment, but the response from some would still have been "we need to concentrate on actual football." Same could have been said in 2009, 2010, 2011... and before you know it, another decade has gone by and the place looks even more run down.
It'd be great if some sort of plan could be put in place over the course of a few seasons to bring Tannadice up to scratch and looking like a place that's cared about. Yes, the priority has to be promotion and getting the books in order, but the stadium needs to be looked at at some stage.

I don't disagree mate & investment there cements long-term usage.
I never want to see us play anywhere else but Tannadice Park.

Not long had a new TV ffs, what more do you want!
Seriously though where do you think money should be prioritised on stadium improvements?
As in what first, what second etc

It could do with a lick of paint in areas but other than that I think Tannadice is fine. Minus installing safe standing, which is never going to happen to be honest, I don't see how much can be done to 'upgrade' the stadium. Especially given its Scottish football, and even if we do get up it's unlikely we'll fight for Europe at any point in the near future.
I hear what you're saying but at the same time, you'll need to provide some examples of what can be done. I think Tannadice is fit for purpose, particularly in Scottish Football.

No been to sporting events in the States but I would imagine those stewards would get a P 45 straight away there.

If United spent money on anything except strengthening the team I would be pissed off.
Tannadice is fine as it is.

That's one of the points I was trying to make originally - so when DO we give Tannadice a lick o' paint? If and when we go back up, as long as Neilson has a squad he's happy with that will finish top 6 and challenge for cups (you know, the minimum United should be achieving) then I don't think anyone will be too fussed about Tannadice being smartened up. I think it's long overdue.
So what would I do? Well, I'd need to to a lap around the outside of the stadium with a notepad first things first, but offhand:
Cherry pickers would need to come in and give the stands an initial good jet wash. We did this pre season for the GF a few years ago. But the white fittings get dirty quite quickly. Just about everything on the outside needs a fresh coat of paint, doors that were once tangerine are now peach (if the paint hasn't flaked off). Most of the signage is faded, or battered looking, or half hanging off, or out of date - sorting that out would smarten things up.
Inside, most of the adverts are faded, battered or half hanging off. It doesn't look good to potential sponsors. On the side of the ET stand, the same two adverts have been there for years - one for the commercial team, one for ArabZONE - both are faded and on both the information is out of date. We could just give them to Utilita to show other potential main sponsors how good Tannadice is for brand exposure.
The PA system is badly in need of replacing. I stopped buying 50/50 tickets because I couldn't hear the result (and I find it unbelievable that nobody has the inclination to put the result on United's Twitter or on the scoreboard).
I think the last time anything inside had a lick of paint was in preparation for the Slask Wroclaw game, that would go a long way to freshen the place up.
I think the biggest and most obvious part of Tannadice that needs to be looked at is the corner between the Shed and the GF. Something needs to be done with that. I think it'd be the perfect spot for the Jim McLean statue. I like the idea of him 'presiding' over the park. A new police command station could easily just be rebuilt directly beside the Shed, there's more than enough room.
That's about it for now. The club could also see if there are fans in the support that could offer the labour for free, lots of other clubs do that.
I'll mention this again - ACTUAL FOOTBALL MUST COME FIRST, but if we don't spruce the place up soon, then when? Plus, most of us seem to think it's okay for Tannadice to look run down because most other stadiums are run down. But freshening Tannadice up will make it more attractive to advertisers. So done correctly, perhaps improvements could pay for themselves?
Before anyone slags me off a la "we're in the Championship and this roaster's talking about the state of the perimeter adverts" - this is a discussion forum, so I'm in no doubt that some will disagree wholesale. So for avoidance of doubt, my priority is seeing us back in the top 6 and getting days out to Hampden.

Great post Benny. You should let the Club see it.
Folk at the club definitely look in, I've had one or two calls about comments I've made on here in the past

Re statue. I love jim McLean. Best manager weve ever had. However this statue. Imo its just gonna add pressure on any future manager. He certainly deserves recognition, but a statue. It's a no from me.

aye true dont want the snowflakes getting added pressure like those pictures of us winning things and that
I am a yes for this - genuine question mate but why not from you? Thought most folk would be a yes but maybe im blinkered.
I just think its too much for inside the ground(I should have clarified that)
See that wee bit of ground between the allotment and the East Stand ramp it would be ideal in there. Landscape it properly and put it in there.

In my dreams I'd love to see the corner between the Shed and GF filled in as seating to provide a wrap around link between the stands but probably not in my lifetime 😅
Is there not room for the JM statue at the players/officials entrance which is fenced off and would protect it

Maybe we could get rid of the Eddie thompson name off the East Stand. Should never have been named after him.

a ridiculous idea to put the statue in the corner of shed/dode stands.
Has to be outside the stadium and that bit of ground B&T mentions is ideal. I read tonight it is planned to go at the top of the east stand ramp.
The stadium does see painting each year. Agree alot of other improvements in places can be made.
Ive noticed the advertising board missing at the front of east stand also.

Agree.
I would like to see the stand renamed the Jim McLean stand especially now with the statue going outside it.

The stand was there before Eddie was involved, I'd initially revert back to East Stand, the original name.

Boiled my piss when Stephen done that. Seems you don't have to do much these days to get bits named after you.

When I was a lad living in Sandeman Street it was called the Quo Vadis. IIRC the Italian owner was named Cabrelli and was interned during WW2.
Cheers for that I never knew. I used to stay in arklay street and was only ever the amalfi that I knew.

That named Cabrelli rung a bell, wylie 1: Peter Cabrelli was a player who turned out for United in minor league fixtures during WW2, then in B Division. According to Arab Archive he was conscripted on the Allies' side, as he was born in Dundee.
Prior to United, when with Forfar he went to visit relatives in Italy, and played for Genoa and the forerunner of Internazionale, Ambrosiana Milano.
But, again according to an article in the Courier, which I've appended below (but from Press Reader), he turned down the chance to sign for Internazionale.
But the big story about him is he wanted to support his dad's chip shop business, and that's why he turned down a move to the top level in Italy. At that time Italy were World Champions.
His son, also Peter, was an associate director at United at the time of our centenary. He died in 2014, 20 years after his dad, the bloke who turned down professional terms at Internazionale.

Probably the best place to create a "safe standing/singing section". Would'nt be annoying folk loosing their Season Ticket that want a seat and would link the East Stand and George Fox atmosphere.
Sorry just re read yer post bud. I mean between the GF and East Stand. Pished.
