Re: Rumour mill

If it's all the same, I'm waiting until it's confirmed by Arab87.

IF it happens, wonder if other clubs will play 'hardball' with United if we attempt to bring in players, looking for higher percentages of wages being paid on loan signings, or even fees? I was thinking the takeover might drag on until the start of February, at the earliest.

Teetering on the brink.
Good cop or bad cop?
Apologies for the pessimism but a helluva lot of takeovers in pro football sink.

Re: Rumour mill

From Website...

Dundee United are pleased to announce the purchase of a controlling stake in the Club by Mark Ogren, a US-based businessman.

Mr Ogren has acquired 85.61% of the issued share capital in Dundee United Football Company Ltd previously owned by Mike Martin and James Fyffe.Mr Ogren, whose business interests span oil services, software and real-estate becomes the Club’s new Chairman with Mr Martin stepping down both as Chairman and board director. Mr Fyffe and David Dorward remain directors at the Club. The result of several months of discussions, this acquisition provides Dundee United with the strong financial foundations required to support the Club’s football ambitions, specifically a return to the Ladbrokes Premiership.Mr Martin said, “Throughout our discussions, I was impressed by Mark’s passion for sport in general and his vision and ambition for Dundee United. He has developed a keen understanding of our rich history, our values and traditions, the importance of our community role and the passion and loyalty of the supporter base. “I feel privileged to have been Chairman at this great Club and I am grateful for all the support and assistance given to me throughout that period. I leave with confidence that Dundee United’s future is in very good hands.”

Re: Rumour mill

He owns shares in Sioux Falls Stampede hockey team. He bought shares in a baseball team in 2012, but sold them in 2017.
He sold 13 stations for $5m to a texas buyer in Sept 2018.

Re: Rumour mill

Croix oil - sold in September. Had between 50 and 200 employees - so maybe not a sugar daddy type owner. Price of sale unknown.

Looks like he owns a couple of wee baseball teams too.

Really can't see a lot about him

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Rumour mill

Notice it says he's buying Jim Fyffe's shares, but he's still remaining a Director? How can he be a Director if he does'na hae any shares? Would be interested to hear what that's about. Mibbee hear sonething this efternane.

Re: Rumour mill

Massive question marks on this, We know the name but diddly squat else about this man, obviously has money in the bank but with so many fingers in other sports pies where do we stand in his priorities as he's obviously not going to be a chairman on the ground at Tannadice on a day to basis and i'd imagine not even a month to month basis.

I'm slightly worried if truth be told

Re: Rumour mill

You would hope so and hopefully he would have a Q+A night so the supporters could ask what plans he has for the club.

Plenty folk are directors but have no shares.  Not an issue.

Re: Rumour mill

Time will tell, however excellent confidentiality work by the old board. The new owners name was never leaked anywhere. Many posters said the whole thing was just made up, a pile of shite.
£1m for Utd if we can get back to where we were 5years ago will seem like a good investment

Re: Rumour mill

Know what? I want to know everything about this guy!!

And before someone says we aren't entitled to know everything about him i don't mean 'what his shoe size is', his 'star sign' or whether he voted for Trump.

I mean i want to know how this move came about.

What are his ambitions for Dundee United?

Will he bringing in other business partners on to the board?

Exactly why did he keep on Fyffe and Dorward and not Martin?

Why did the negotations take so long?

Does he see Dundee United as an investment opportunity?

And most of all...'why Dundee United?'.

And if he gives a generic 'the club has a rich history, a good fanbase and a good platform to move forward from' blah blah blah i hope a journalist probes further and asks again 'but why specifically Dundee United?'.

Because lets face it there are plenty of clubs in UK football he could have invested in. What is it about DUFC that got him interested in buying over 80% of our shares and relinquishing with 1 million pounds of his own personal wealth?

It's very important we know the detailed explanations to these questions as there have been too many cowboys involved in clubs not too far away from us who were desperate for a buyer in recent times (Vladimir Romanov/Hearts, Angus Cook, Ron Dixon, Giovanni Di Stefano/Dundee, Angelo Massone/Livingston, Craig Whyte/ Rangers etc etc).

It's our club and we have a duty to know that the man who holds the reigns is up to the task.
