January signings- Who do you want?

How many players you think we need?

What positions?

And any possible realistic names?

I think we need 5 players.

Left back, right back, Centre Half, Attacking central midfielder and a (physical) centre forward.

Would like to see us on the phone to Brendan Rogers and enquiring about getting Anthony Ralston back. Would also ask if either of Scott Allan or Lewis Morgan were available, again on loan.

Would also bring Mohsni back. Thought he strolled it for us and only had one below par game (Livi at home). Chipped in with goals too.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

1st thought afterwards was Edge's filly in acceptable form turned back to what I feared. Need another CB or 2 counting back up.

Worried that Fyvie looks mair worried than me about him getting injured again and Stanton has an injury that is likely to re occur. Without them we are fucked. Still missing a creative midfielder that creates mair than the pair although we are good when they are on their game.

I think we need 5 good players in but think we'll be lucky to get 2 or 3. Loans are our best bet.

If we have new owners they will need to get some sort of impressive investment into the squad if they want any kind of 1st impression that's positive.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

Keeper - Don’t rate either of the two keepers we brought in, if Deniz comes back and steps up, fair enough, but for me, we’d get they two out, and a new keeper in with Deniz as backup. Who the new keeper would be though, I’ve no idea.

Right Back - Most important position to sort out IMO. Ralston’s a good shout for the rest of the season. Liam Smith at Ayr’s only contracted to the end of the season, he’d be my first choice long-term.

Centre Mid - Probably just as important as right back to get sorted, the gulf between our first choice and backups is scary. Tansey’s a decent shout, McGrandles at MK Dons too maybe. Neilson knows this needs sorted, so trust him to have someone lined up.

Winger - Not as big as the previous two positions, but we could still do better than King and McMullan for me. Neilson had Peter Pawlett at MK and he’s not getting a look in. Sam Nicholson who was at Hearts with RN, maybe. Lewis Morgan’s a good shout till the end of the season. Scott Allan, through it would never happen, would be a lot more productive as a number 10 than McMullan. Don’t think we could have Ralston and Allan/Morgan, pretty sure you can only have one loan from any one team.

Striker - Not massive, but nothing wrong with improving our options there. Osman Sow at MK again. Marc McNulty was banging in goals for Coventry last season, but isn’t getting a look in at Reading now, maybe a loan till the end of the season, though would probably have options at a better level.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

I’d say we need a GK, RB, LB, CB, CM, LW.

We won’t get nearly that number in.

On the CM position, Declan Glass is surely a better back-up option than Rabitsch/Barton.
Also Scott Allardice should have been the back-up CB instead of Edge, and Wardrop surely has to be better than Watson at RB.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

Need 6 in minimum for me.
Keeper lb rb midfielder winger striker.

I doubt we will see half that unless takeover happens and they give RN a wedge to win this league

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

Scott Allan (CM) - Celtic -Loan if we don't get Ralston.
Tony Ralston (RB) - Celtic - Possible Loan
Greg Tansey (CM) - Aberdeen - Free, been told by Aberdeen to find a new club in Jan.
Daniel Armstrong (LM) - Raith - Free, only signed 6 months contract with Raith in summer, very, very talented player.
Liam Smith (RB) - Ayr - Good young RB, lets test Ayr's resolve.
Jake Kean (GK) - Free, decent keeper, needs some stability in his career.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

Kevin Nisbett having a good season at Raith.

18 goals already.

Worth keeping an eye on.

Would take him or the lad Blair Henderson from Edinburgh City. Both goal scorers that should be playing at a higher level.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

Reckon Robbie will be looking at experienced players he knows well, on loan, rather than there being a chance of the club spending a fee to get any player.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

Is it not more about wages to the player than fees to the club?
If I was to bring in ONE player it would be in the heart of our defence.
Should be able to get a decent one for £2k/week.
A Fojut type, that's all. Or dare I say a Mohsni? I don't think they've redone his prayers room yet.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

We need a right back, another decent centre half would be a welcome addition. Centre midfield we are a bit light. Another winger and possibly another striker with pace would add to our attacking threat.

I'll agree that for all the CHs we have, not one stands out (for me).

Regarding Wages v Fee, a £100,000 fee is one decent player's £2,000 a week.

Where we've fucked up is giving two year contracts to distinctly average players, often injury prone and chosen by Csaba.

Cannae see us getting five players, maybe even six (as you've not mentioned a goalkeeper). Perhaps two, unless the financial situation shows an upturn.

EDIT: Transfermkt shows Deniz Mehmet contracted to May 2019: that isn't right, is it?

It is right, 12-month extension from May 2018.
3 other current players got 2-yr extensions then - Matty Smith, Jamie Robson, Fraser Fyvie.
13 new players were given 2-yr contracts - in the order they were signed - Wardrop, Booth, Clark, Curran, Aird, Frans, Siegrist, Rakovan, Rabitsch, Barton, Loemba, Watson, Bouhenna.
1 new player got a 3-yr contract - Curran.
1 loanee got a 1-yr contract - Safranko.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

First of all neilson should try his very very best to get rid of the shite, then try sign players

1 of the goalies punted, keep Deniz
Barton, loemba, rabshit, then get younger players oot on loan, robson Smith

We need 2 full backs, a centre mid, a winger, a number 10, and a striker, never ever gonna happen but this is what we need

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

There's not going to be a clear-out so stop writing to Santa.
I reckon your average player punted within contract will set us back £25k each.
That's a helluva lot of half-season tickets.
Maybe why Neilson is playing the continuity card today, he knows we can't fork out to get rid of players.
They're on the wage bill, they'll be kept on to May 2020, and hopefully we'll see them all improving as players.
Can't just get rid like they don't exist.

That's when you try to wheel and deal. For example. Liam Smith that plays right back for Ayr is out of contract in the summer. So offer Wardrop, Scobbie and small sum of cash for Liam Smith. Sign Tansey and Dnaiel Armstrong on a free. Loan Scott Allan and a striker.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

I'm about crying looking at some of them on two year deals. There's at least 4 of them that'll never play or do anything.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

Scott Allan will go to Hibs who are short in midfield. No danger he'd come to us.

Too much commotion

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

BBC Sport Gossip this morning:

Tractor Sazi have reported former Kilmarnock striker Lee Erwin and ex-Celtic and Hibernian forward Anthony Stokes=16px to world governing body Fifa after the pair quit the Iranian top-flight club claiming personal problems.

=16pxErwin was decent at Motherwell and Killie from what I remember. Stokes would have that additional quality we need.

Re: January signings- Who do you want?

If we ever signed that scumbag Stokes I'd be finished with the club.

Can you explain why Ayr would want Scobbie and Watdrop?

2 players and cash for 1 player who is out of contract in the summer. Sounds a fair deal to me.
