Wonder what the Police will make of it, given the away supporters' buses presently park on the road right outside the door? Do visiting buses to Dens park there too?

some people would make a comment on Barile and booze.
I won’t.
But some will...

I like this. Don't see a problem. Sure the supporters buses can be sorted out or moved.Like that it's in this building that seems to have been there since we have been a club....

Canna believe places like Club 83 are'na gonna loose some business if this happens, no to mention the other Pubs roondaboot that are popular with us Arabs on matchday.

agree Billy.
Places like the snug troll etc will suffer i think but the regulars wont move i doubt.
1 plus for it is that i read on the article it will have a beer garden. Something which will be decent for some games. Im assuming this will be around the back of the shop area.

Smaller teams I can't see an issue withbuses. How ever, celtic rangers and aberdeen I can see a problem (when we get promoted). No place really elsewhere to park them.
I'm taking it the heggie is going to be shut now.
Personally im not a fan of the idea. I'd rather use a proper pub than some sanitised "sports bar'

Yer right about the glasgow 2 and sheep I suppose. They will need segregated most likely whist we coin it in and there will be damage on occassions. Sure those planning this will be aware of this already.
Totally get yer loyalty to the Snug and distaste for "sanitised sportsbars" too as will many. This ain will just be one of many places Arabs(and other fans) will spend their cash on matchdays. Initially being new it will hit the closer pubs more but will most likely end up one of many pubs folk drink in on the way in.
I think it's about time United cashed in better on the drink culture the game is part of.
One thing for sure is they will need to employ better security with people skills to keep order than the steward types we currently have.

I think it's a very good idea from Utd and long long overdue. I have been saying to some of my closest supporter friends for years we should do this. Look at just how profitable Kilmarnock's hotel/pub has been for them (practically kept them afloat). We will not quite deposit the same outlay or generate the same profit as that venture, of course. But, nonetheless, this is forward thinking, and (again) imo, long overdue.
I will certainly go there when I am up and have time for a drink before (and hopefully on occasion afterwards).
Take people's points about it affecting local Dundee pubs they are fond of however. But it sounds like it will only be matchdays so hopefully the said pubs won't be too badly affected financially.
My only slight concern is what B+T alluded too. The Rangers and Aberdeen trashing the place.

Hope they've done their sums right. Kitchen will be about 50k, flooring about 40k (this is my line of work). Bound to be about 300k to do this. How long is it gonna take them to get their money back if they're only open for a few hours on Matchday, even at £3.50 a pint.
The Club's no rolling in money is it. So where's the money coming from to do this. Just hope it's no fae Robbie's January budget.
Spoken to one of the proprietors who runs one of the local establishments and they're no too happy about it.

I'm assuming it will be a bit like the Hibs club off Easter Road. Key to that is that it is good for big groups and you can get kids in (which is a plus over pubs). Generally however I don't think there is much call for another drinking establishment near the grounds and it will undoubtedly impact local pubs which will suffer and then provide less of an amenity for local punters on non-match days, then eventually less choice on match days.

It’s another hospitality lounge isn’t it? (to begin with initially)

Don't think it is, I thought it was just a huge bar (with the possibility of hospitality on a mezzanine floor) oprn to United fans on home games and open to away fans for whoever Dundee were playing in the alternate Saturday.

Planning submission was for 152 seats hospitality and 60 seats “open to public” originally.
Doesn’t quite reflect the press billing as a place for all the fans to go to?

quite likely as it's prematch, and in those days it would seem nae women around to offend. but would imagine a bobby would take a dim view nevertheless
I'm no builder but the fence doesn't look strong enough for that stack of bricks, aye well everyone survived
Bunnets on the way out & beanies not in yet.
A lot of cold heads in the early 60s.
A bit smoggy in the background or just another shite winter's day?

Given the pile oe bricks that redford pointed oot, wonder if this is during the building oe the Jerry Kerr.

the local pubs won’t miss out too much, if it’s true that it only caters for 60 non-hospitality punters.
The Snug benefitted when the 4 Js shut.

Another wee thought about that bar: if it only opens on match days, I'll bet the beer isn't well kept.
Someone has to be working the pumps and cleaning the pipes properly, and once a week opening doesn't encourage that.
Mind you, I'm sure the club has an experienced person on board who knows this better than me!
