A mate I work with knows the players well and socialises with a number of the players at the weekends showed me a few texts and snapchats from some of the them. Would seem even after day or two in charge they are delighted with Neilson and his plans to take them fwd. Not surprisingly the players thought Shabba was an idiot with no clue. Night and day from before apparently.Players have been told it will going back to basics 4-4-2 - 2 up front at home.
I like the sound of this.

Neilson sounds like a breathe of fresh air in his interview, says he wants another coach but a forward thinking coach so my guess Jon daly Stevie Crawford or maybe billy dodds

I haven’t been this excited about any appointment since Levein. It might take him a few weeks to get this team up and running due to the Csaba hangover, but I really believe Robbie’s the man to get us back where we belong. He has a real steel about him, and has you believing every word he says without being too over the top with his promises and statements. Think the players will really want to play and win for him.
Heard along with Crawford, he’s trying to get Dillon back as a coach. Might be next season due to his playing commitments with Montrose. Could be on Levein’s advice, as he seemingly tried to get Dillon in at Hearts as a coach when he left us, but he wanted to keep playing.
I agree totally that it might take a few weeks to get up and running. He's who I wanted from the so called list.
Worry a bit that we need a signing or 2 though.
Not expecting the new manager bounce I usually feel more confident about. Time and patience is required but we have none of either after years of what we've had. I will give him time and won't get too carried away if we win on Saturday.
Support matters a lot right now.

Pretty happy considering some of the names being touted around. Hopefully can turn Robson's form around given he played similar position. Will there be any cash available to him given how many guys we signed on long deals?
Mike Martin's reply to a question regarding how much flexibility there will be in backing Robbie in January or sooner was exactly this...
"We're very keen having selected Robbie, to back him properly.
I think as Robbie has already said, he's impressed with the squad that we have at the moment and so we're not intending andhoping not to have wholesale change in January.
The last few transfer windows have been very active for us and not always successfully and so we're keen to bring a bit of stability to the club overall and that includes developing and working with the squad that we have with selective additions when it's required."
What a very contradictory reply that is.
Mike Martin reminds me of a politician.
What do you want him to say. Were you hoping he would go all out Gerald Ratner on the current squad?

Ive heard nothing but good things about Neilson. I think we are extremely lucky to have him here.
This is where rubber meets the road. I'm telling you, any issues from here on are not going to be down to the manager. Lets give him time and make sure we hold the rest of the club accountable.
Cant wait for tomorrow.

One Jambo mate of mine didn't rate him but at that time Hearts were flying.
Every Jambo I know or have met since he joined us raves about him and rekon we have done very well to get him. Only issue really is that the squad he had at Hearts was probably better. They all say he will bring youth through to play which he might well do but these cunts ken fuckall about our squad and youths.
I've got a good feeling about him but worry we are a decent addition or 3 short.

No.
I was reffering more to him saying that he was very keen to back Neilson 'properly' , but in the next breathe saying that there will be very few changes at all in January as recruitment in the past has been shit basically.
It's a nonsensical thing to say/reason to give.
I would have thought that much was obvious tbh.

Absolutely delighted with the Neilson appointment and how he’s conducted himself so far.
Proof will be in the performances but feeling confident for tomorrow and rest of season
The team needs defensive reinforcements ideally a very good goalkeeper and wing backs at latest.
Robbie has to be backed to do that in January and I think he will be
The future is looking bright and tangerine

Exactly what I've heard RE youth set-up. Sort of appointment you want to be in there long-term. Also agree the squads not good enough. If this goes tits up again, feels good to know it wont be on the manager.
Feeling optimistic today for first time in a while.

What makes me nervous here is his chances of a patient support and being backed by the board.
Best thing would be backed in numbers that help by both all round. Volume of people and £'s all round. Give him a fighting chance.

He's no stupid. Part of what's got him the job is probably saying he will have a go with what he's got, the board like that. If they could just let him bring in 1 or 2 decent players before finding out we do need them it would help massively without the damage of trying to just rely on giving it a go and only his influence on the current squad. Ken we have fuckall money and it's no that simple and a gamble.

youre closer to that than I am but I think the supports been quite patient really. I think they'll give Neilson time, cant say as much about the board though... im not exactly sold either. A lot of talk.

The support is NOT the problem at Tannadice. We’ve had 4 crap managers in a row playing a rubbish style of football and FAILING. The fans are not stupid, they will back the team if the team is worth backing and we haven’t had anything worth backing in the last 4 years. The task for Robbie is to give us something worth backing and United fans will respond. The squad is not great but the first thing they need to do is knock their pans in for the club and when they do so they’ll find a whole heap of support. Robbie like all the other managers will get a fair crack of the whip from fans, it’s up to him build on that.

You're right annan but the support need try to be part of the solution. The blame for our current situation isn't the supports fault at all.
How things go from here on can be influenced by the support more than hindered. It will take results though and backing from the board. Too risky to wait until January to back the new manager with new players.
If new manager bounce doesn't happen the board will be the next target to gang up on and go for. We are at a crossroads in that respect. Fans are at their wits end with being loyal.

It’s a chicken and egg situation. When a players bursts a gut the fans respond, when the ball is played into the box the fans are on the feet, when there is a near thing or their keeper has to make a save the fans roar and burst into song. When the team play the turgid stuff fans are quiet, bored or disinterested. It’s easy to get the fans on board so give them the stuff they have paid to see and watch the fans play their part

Great start for Robbie. Like that we had a good 70ish mins with high posession % and number of attempts on goal. Like that McMullan, King and Aird interchanged with freedom and gave the opposition a hard time, we need to be less predictable and knowing they do that won't help most managers anyway. Like that the players like the new training and match prep and that Robbie is an honest spoken type of manager that makes a decent job of manipulating the situation that's important to progression and getting people on board without sounding like a tit.
Hope those who gave up going for all sorts of reasons can consider coming back on Saturday.
Let's not get carried away but still make an effort to show what we can do fae the stands.
