They had 4 games postponed the other year and said they were going to sort the drainage system. Think it will l take abit of luck for this game to avoid postponement going by the forecast

would like to see us 4-4-2 no frills, just a hard working side that fight till the end.
bouhenna doesnt deserve to be dropped - robson doesnt deserve to play for us

We need to stop trying to shoehorn three centre halves into a back four. Pick the best two and stick with them.

I agree: see how that line of thinking regarding two lb works for McLeish.
The defence is a problem, after thinking Watson and Frans were our best central pairing, we let in five at home. And Bouhenna looked like a fish out of water in midfield that game. Over and above, the full back area creates an issue. And the goalkeeper!
I've got to think of players who need a rest from the starting eleven, to put things politely.
So Barton, Rabitsch, Murdoch, Booth, Curran, Loemba, King, Rakovan, probably would be on the bench at best, for me, in most games.
Siegrist,
Wardrop,
Watson,
Frans,
Robson,
Aird,
Fyvie,
Stanton/Bouhenna (?),
McMullan,
Clark,
Safranko.
Not that convinced my own choice there, to be brutal. Thought Bouhenna performed well in midfield away to Falkirk, so might think he would be in for Stanton as it is an away fixture.

Now, I don’t know about the boy Wardrop. Laszlo seemed to just freeze him out.
A natural RB in a back four, for balance, is what we need. Especially away from home. He’ll have a clean slate under Robbie Neilson. And will surely only learn under him, having been a full back himself.

Neither Rakovan or Seigreist fill me with condifence.
Robson and an untried Wardrop at LB and RB gives me the fear. Wardrop might end up being a good player, but I'd prefer it if we had Booth in at LB if Wardrop is being played at RB for the next handful of games.

Willie Collum referee tomorrow. Giving it a miss.
4-4-2 keep it simple, take our chances and rely on Thistle lacking punch - it worked at Tannadice earlier this season

4 ex players and Coulibaly's first game I believe. 2-1 them.

I hope Neilson tells the defence to just keep things simple.
I.e. clear the ball to fuck when you are under pressure, try to not let crosses into our box, don't give away daft free-kicks, try and clear our lines and not piss about like we did last week, mark their danger men like Doolan tightly etc.
Other than that I just hope everyone gives everything they have tomorrow.
Oh and get Declan Glass in that team.

Glass will probably be the 1st to be in the 1st team fae the youths if Robbie's after doing what he's reportedly into. No sure the time will be the morn though bud. Who knows?!

Going by the pre match interviews there seems to be a clear message that the manager feels we've been vulnerable to counter attacks and too open in general defensively. Just two clean sheets all season (away to Falkirk and the dead rubber v Elgin) back that up.
Neilson has favoured a back four in the past so would seem seem likely he'll go with that today. We're very weak in the full back areas though. Main area that needs addressing in January.
Further forward, it all depends on who's fit to start.

Looks like a 4-2-3-1 with McMullan in behind Safranko. Probably the strongest XI we’ve fielded this season. Clark in for McMullan and a right back in for Frans, and that’s probably our strongest XI full stop.
Good win - will need to wait on reports as to the performance as couldn't make it today but my immediate thought looking at the online stats; is this the first league game this season where we've had the majority of possession?

Apparently McMullan played really well.

dominated the first 75 mins then subbed the tiring Fyvie and hung on for the last 15.
Some great performances from McMullen, Stanton, Safranko, Frans and Watson.
few negatives were the subs, all of them contributed nothing but 3 points and hopefully a bit of momentum.

also meant to add 4-4-2 and 1000 United fans.
players all to a man came towards the Shed at the end.
onwards and upwards

Listened on radio as away at a caravan for the weekend and sounded like we dominated the majority of game and possibly unfortunate not to go in at half time with more goals.
Great win today a much needed 3 points

Big win and fantastic to get Neilson's era of to a winning start.
Now (finally) in the Play-Off spots which is the absolute minimum Dundee United should be in this Division. Under Lászlò i don't think we were making even those this season.
Another huge game next week against Inverness and if we can get another win we could go joint 2nd if Ayr beat County (though a draw might be what we're looking for there).
Btw i thought Neilson got the line-up and formation spot-on today, absolutely spot-on.
he got the attitude right as well Tek. Seems our squad isnt fit enough though so its good to hear training intensity has significantly increased
