I more or less dismissed it out of hand whenever his name’s been mentioned. But a lot of journalists and folk in the know seem to think he’d have a real interest in listening to what we have to say, apparently he’s fed up in Perth and wants a new challenge. Contract’s also up at the end of the season, so compo wouldn’t be a major issue.
If there’s chance he’s interested, we need to pursue it and do all we can to woo him here. Neilson, Ellis, McIntyre are all gambles, Wright’s as close to a sure bet as we’re gonna get.
I hope so. I'm sure I read somewhere that MM planned to go all in for Wright. I think it was some random on Twitter, so just dismissed it as BS. It probably still is, unfortunately

When we approached St Johnstone for permission to speak to to Paul Mathers as goalie coach Wright was lavish in his praise for our professionalism and slated Sunderland for tapping him up. You never know if he was offering us some encouragement.

I’m not sure about wright as manager.
The main criticism i have heard is his style is dull.
The main positive is that he is professional and he would galvanise the team. Someone like him would get us promoted with traits like that, I would hope.
Regardless, a move like this, if pulled off, would be a clear statement of intent from MM and would silence the naysayers, or if you are on the fence about him (like myself) allay some fears

If you can take a small club like St Johnstone, win the Scottish Cup, continually push for a top 6 finish then you're doing no bad.
Wright is the longest serving manager i believe in the SPFL so given the fact he can keep a job and those who are being mentioned are obviously out of work tells it's own story.
He might not be managing a Barca style football team but given the money available to him there to get results he needs to forgo style for points. Maybe given a bigger budget he would let the football flow a bit more.
Saying that he is a focused and dogged manager who demands his players given him and the fans everything, he'd steady the ship imo as lets face it can his football style be any worse that what we've been watching. We HAVE to get out of this league by ANY means necessary. Then we can start to demand attractive football.
not sure about wright as a manager -fucking lol

Could be Wright's Agent feeding some rumours to journos he is associated with. Now this could be to let Utd know of Tommy's interest but it could just as likely be to try and let other clubs know of his accessibility or even to get his client more money at St.Johnstone or strengthen his hand with the club.
He 100% would be my first choice though, no doubt about it. A leader of men and stands up for his club and players. A big presence of a man, who has a wee bit of a 'fear factor' with his players but also has their respect. Not easy to command both in a dressing room environment.
The football St.Johnstone play may not be sparkling, but by God it's been effective these past 5 years.
Have beaten both The Rangers and Celtic in Glasgow, hammered The Rangers in Perth, hammered Aberdeen 5-1 at Pittodrie, beat Aberdeen in a SCSF at Ibrox, beat Utd in a SCF at Celtic Park, beat that same Utd side 5 times in a row (a Utd side with Robertson, GMS, Armstrong, Souttar, Gauld, Ciftci etc), won silverware, took them into Europe, won away to Rosenborg. I can't quite believe he's still there to be quite honest.
He has taken St.Johnstone as far as he can and we must pursue him and make him aware he can become a Dundee United legend if he wins us this league and stabilises the club. He can also keep his current house, get a better wage and take the reigns at a club with a bigger fanbase and with more potential.
If we somehow managed to convince him to take the Utd job I would finally feel like we were Dundee United again once more after years of embarrassment.
I would also (for the first time) praise Mike Martin and back the man.
I still can't see it though unfortunately. Though you never know.

Let me clarify
He used us as a bargaining chip in his last contract negotiations with St J and completely fucked us
I’m not sure he would be our manager as
Look where we are
Look how far we have sunk
Etc...
