Utd's best win at Ibrox?

I would argue this was.

Rangers had a very expensive team full of Internationalist's at the time.

But we played them off the park on this afternoon. And had done the same at Tannadice to knock them out the Scottish Cup (1-0) just 20 days previous, which was also completely deserved.

A mini renaissance period for Utd after a couple of years of mediocrity.

About 6 years of shite was to follow after this unfortunately.

But still none of the above was as bad as our current predicament.

Look at our midfield on this day controlling the ball, spraying passes, chasing everything, tackling hard but fair, chins up, looking to always go forward.

Vintage Utd.

Dont know if its the best win but its my favourite.  December 1994. 3-0 utd at ibrox. Think it was brewster Connolly and welsh who scored. Absolutely loved the away end that day.

Great day that!  It was Bowman, Brewster and Paddy who scored.  Iain Ferguson sent off for gobbing on Petric after Petric smashed the tinky cunt in the pus.

Re: Utd's best win at Ibrox?

Mind oe beating them 4-1, early 80s. Sturrock and Kirkwood scored IIRC, and think Bannon got 2.

The 1st time I can actually remember beating them at Ibokes. Eh musta been 15 or 16 so that would be mid 70s. Think it was 3-1 or 3-2, and Hamish scored fae Penalty. Canna mind exactly wha else scored, but got a funny feeling it might've been Gordon Wallace coz Eh do mind oe him scoring at Ibokes.

Re: Utd's best win at Ibrox?

All about opinions, but any win there was good.

Today, my favourite would be from early 1977, winning 3-2 after being 2-0 down, and realising we had some decent young players at the club like Luggy, Graeme Payne and Heggy, and experience in Geordie Fleming, Hamish and Frankie Kopel.

No segregation, some of us were in with a rabid bunch of bigots in the SW stand enclosure., as directed by the police (for their amusement?).

Don't think Daily Motion videos embed here, so the link is....

That was a night game, Billy. That night United's fans in a sparse crowd were in the upper Broomloan Stand. Rangers tried to boot us all over the park, but it took until we were 4-1 up for the referee to finally take action and send Gregor Stevens off.

Re: Utd's best win at Ibrox?

Agree Pat that any win there is good

2-0 in early 1997 one stands out for me, comfortable victory against a very strong Rangers side. My gut feel leaving ibrox was that it could have been more.

1-0 win in 2005 also worth a shout, bottom of league, had been battered 7-1 at Hampden by them a few months before, and that team found something that night. Tony Bullock had the game of his life and Jim McIntyre lead the line superbly. 2-1

2-1 around 1990 with darren jackson scoring two late headers and alan main saving a penalty was epic

Stevens set out to maim players from the first whistle in that 4-1 match: already Dodds and Milne had had to be substituted due to crass challenges. We finished with ten men as well as the home side, and there were no other bookings by the referee (from EK, Tek  ).

Of course, bowman it was. Decent utd support that day.

3-2 in 86/87 was also a great day

Your video is the 2nd of the 2 matches I was talking about Pat (I knew Gordon Wallace had scored there), so it was '77 then, and your recollections mean we are clearly talking about the same 2 matches here, although I think your memory is a bit better than mine !

I had to look up details, being honest.

Fair dooz Pat. TBH although i remember Sturrock getting injury to his face at some point there, I still wouldna remembered it was at that match unless you'd mentioned it.

Was at this one. We played well first half but took our foot off the gas in the second. The move for the second goal was superb. Vintage Dickers, GMS and Johnny Russell making up a seriously strong left hand side for us.

Watching their team and fans in total disarry was what made this memorable however. They went into admin the next day.

Then they died.

Re: Utd's best win at Ibrox?

Hard to pick a fave tbh.  Seen us win loads at Ibrox and it’s always enjoyable.  Our record there is pretty impressive.  If only we had that record across Glasgow too.

the 1-0 win in league cup (i think) Mcswegan screamer.  That was sweet as it was unexpected and we didnt deserve it so even funnier

Thing is, before 1992 (our last win there) our record at Celtic Park was pretty good under Wee Jim.

Aye Jim could get us a win there at times, 15 managers since our last win there tho, fuck knows how many games, horrific.

Not a victory but our 0-0 draw in 1976 takes some beating for significance

What a day that was.

Albeit it was December 1993, not '94. (5 months before we would beat them in Glasgow again, for Silver).

See if Romario, Batistuta or Shearer had scored that it would have hundreds of thousands of views on Youtube.

Quite possibly the best finish i've ever seen from a DUFC player. A finish of supreme quality.
