Steven Pressley

This interview is brilliant and so reminds me of Craig Levein's interview after Utd got beat 5-0 at Ibrox in one of his first games in charge.

That is a young man who strikes me as a winner.

Did we back the wrong horse when it came down to the job being between Jackie and Elvis ?

Re: Steven Pressley

He is just a bit pissed off! Good to see though. Too many players seem unfazed by it all a bit too much at many clubs, he is taking a risky stance but has to be supported and applauded.

Re: Steven Pressley

Love it.

Imagine those players who he's told are going to leave will try even harder now to earn a move in January.

Win win for him.

1st Point. There is no doubt he is very driven and ambitious as United found out to their cost during his career as a player, going by that interview his attitude and ambitions in management are clearly the same.

2nd Point. Only time will tell as we see them both develop as managers, maybe Pressley's angry but articulate approach will take him far in the game then again maybe he'll create a mutiny with modern day players by such ostracism. Maybe Jackie's more sombre/subtle/silent assassin approach is the key to greatness. One thing that does work no matter how you approach management, a good run of results will build your reputation but a broken dressing room will ruin it.

Re: Steven Pressley

Saint Obby.

If he was going spare every time they lost wee Jim style i could understand your point about his players turning on him but i've never heard big pressley like that.

That really reminded me of levein when he was hungry and first started at Utd.

He was hungry for success and there was still a losing mentality at Tannadice and players just going through the motions.

He laid down an ultimatum, shape up or ship out.And ultimately there was only gonna be one winner.

I think Pressley will do very well in management.

Re: Steven Pressley

I don't disagree with that albeit it may seem i did, i thought the passion for performance ripping through him was great, my point is only time will tell if he's a better manager than McNammara with modern day footballers. You could say there's a similar approach in style with the managers they both learned from. Certainly with McNammara and O'Neil and Pressley with Strachan coincidently in opposite dugouts at ground tomorrow all four have in common. Maybe the result there will give me a clue but i wouldn't back either horse in this race too.

Re: Steven Pressley

Good interview - nothing worse than lazy players with no desire at your club.

We had it for years - fucking awful supporting teams full of half arsed mercenaries.

On the plus side its good to see he has tidied himseld up a bit - his barnet was always a fucking disaster.

Re: Steven Pressley

I like Pressley. He was a terrific player for us and does appear to be in the Levein mould. His teams usually have young players who try to play the right way. We'd have done fine under him. A lot of success or failure of managers is down to the contacts you have to source players. Coaching wise, Levein, Houston (when he could be arsed to get off the nest) and Jackie are probably much of a muchness. However, Houston contacts appeared to be pish whereas Sir Craig and Jackie's seem to be very good. I get a sense that Pressley's signings have not been up to much for either Falkirk or Coventry.

Re: Steven Pressley

Didn't he just get a new 4-5 year contract?

I mind reading something about them being back at Highfield Road and riding on the back of the good feeling he was given a really long contract

Re: Steven Pressley

Dissapointed for him.

I liked him and always like to see Scots do well in Englandshire.

Not many still managing down there (Alex Neil, any others?).
