Re: What is our strongest team?

That's one of our 29 strongest teams with this season's superb squad.

For me, Squiddy and Connolly and 9 others.

Re: What is our strongest team?

Its difficult as our best on paper would definitely include GMS, Armstrong and Ciftci but IMO none of them deserve a start.

I'd like to see:

....................Czierniak................
Watson...Souttar...Fojut...Townsend
........................Paton..................
Dow.......Spittal.....Telfer.....Connolly
.......................Erskine............................

Re: What is our strongest team?

Just noticed in my own team that none of our three captains (Dillon, Rankin or Armstrong) are in the starting side.

Like someone else said, were struggling for leadership right now.

Re: What is our strongest team?

I'm losing track now, but Armstrong and GMS on the bench for the time being with Connolly and Telfer in. Not actually seen Souttar in a game yet, missed last night - again!! But sounds like he could be pushing Paton and Rankin now.

My overall impression of Souttar was that he is much improved over last season. Much more solid and confident on the ball also. Dunno why he got subbed for Morris late on in 2nd half. Maybe McNamara was trying to bluff Motherwell into thinking we were tightening up in order to limit our goal losses or something......or maybe he wiz injured...if so, dinnae ken how.

Re: What is our strongest team?

Forget 4 2 3 1 and try something different, get some real width in the team.  No place for Armstrong, GMS or Ciftci based on current form and the lazy bastard attitude of the latter one.

                     Rado
      Dillon  Souttar   Fojut
           Paton     Rankin
Erskine Telfer  Spittal  Connolly
              Some new cunt

Ciftci, Armstrong, Dow, GMS, Watson and Townsend on the bench

Re: What is our strongest team?

Errr...

....................................Rado..........................

Dillon.............Souttar..............Fojut.............Townsend.......

.....................Paton...............????????................

Dow.........................Erskine........................Connolly.....

...............................Ciftci......

Probably Rankin in beside Paton but that position is a bit of a quandry.  Thought Butcher and Telfer (who both played in there beside Paton for spells v St Mirren looked like they had something to offer and brought a freshness to that position (and brought the best out of Paton as well I thought).  Rankin is/was a good player but too often has his back to the centre halves not wanting the ball especially when teams press us.  He's got to take more responsibility as a senior player.

That's almost my team Eddy, except i have Souttar in beside Paton.

I just think the laddies too good a player and passer of the ball to keep out of the team.

Put him 20 yards further forward and he won't be crucified for any mistakes he makes.

The laddie can go back to being a CH later in his career.

I'd give Souttar a loan out job-shouldn't be near the first team

only thing i agreed with JMAC about the other night -was taking him off -it was bombscare stuff.

His attitude and reaction after Ainsworth scored the wrongly disallowed goal was Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins -tastic. Like 'Oh shucks they scored again'

Re: What is our strongest team?

I think Souttar's a fantastic young player.

I do not think at this point in time he's a centre Half though.

One of the best footballers in our team though imo.

Soutar undoubtedly adds to the team with his ability to play the ball from the back but agree TEK, he's no a centre half.

With that mind, I'd alter my team to suit his style o play because, make no mistake, he's the real deal.

Re: What is our strongest team?

Totally agree,Baldy.

Cannae believe the flak he gets fae some elements of our support.

The laddie is still of school age and is attempting tae play the game the way i want to see it being played by Dundee United i'e' keeping the ball on the deck and passing it forward to feet.

It's not his fault he's being hung-out to dry playing at centre half against men who are out-muscling him and more experienced.

Even Narey started as a defensive midfielder.Got moved back after playing what 100 or so games?

Re: What is our strongest team?

Just as a wee aside, always interesting to get the perspective of people who watch us regulary that aren't Arabs (and therefore not emotional in their views).

Here is what Tom Duthie and Liam Kennedy of the Tully think is Utd's strongest XI.

Duthie's team looks decent though i'd swap Butcher and Telfer position around.

Re: What is our strongest team?

Kennedys 4-4-2 is well worth a shot in some games but I'd have wee Connolly in for Spittal and possibly Dillon for Watson.
Armstrong, GMS and Shifty in only if they get the finger out.
