Coming up to that time of year....

.....so what are your favourite Christmas holiday films? There are a few that are straight off Christmas films, but there are also ones I watch and associate with Christmas holidays but aren't Christmas films, ie war films like The Great Escape.

Have quite a few favourites - Home Alone, National Lampoons Christmas Vaction, Muppets Christmas Carol, The Time Machine (HG Wells), LA Confidential, The Others, Catch Me if You Can, The Cruel Sea to name just a few.

Usually get a good pile lined up and see if anything decent is actually on the tv, which is rare.

Trading Places, Die Hard, Home Alone all ace Christmas films.

A Child's Christmases in Wales, Trading Places, Only Fools and Horses, About a Boy, Ghostbusters II.

Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas - their version of 'It's a Wonderful Life' is commendable.

Really like that one, gets an airing at least once a year. Actually bought the colour version, but it's better in black and white. Jimmy Stewart makes it.

I don't think I have seen the Christmas one by Beavis and Butthead, will need to see it. When did it come out?

Re: Coming up to that time of year....

Another one is the BFI's Ghost Stories for Christmas. Really good on the couple of days leading up to and after Christmas day. Mostly made up of MR James stories, some really good ones in there. All quite light, just suit the mood. A couple are a bit weird and some filmed in the 70's were trying a bit too hard perhaps.

Will need tae look out for that Hammy.

Quite partial to a wee ghost story at xmas time for some reason.

There used to be a 'Christmas Ghost story' aired on bbc2 on Christmas Eve each year.

Anyone mind eh that?

This is that collection TEK. From the 70's onward to the reproduced ones from the 2000's. The cover I posted is of the first issue, they re-issued it again with a few added extras the following year. All on Amazon, definitely worth it if you remember these christmas eve stories being on tv and fancy seeing them again.
