Spain

I hope Csaba’s learned something watching the Spaniards in this World Cup. The way they play is everything that’s wrong with football, and more specifically, Dundee United nowadays. This nonsense of playing 200 passes without leaving your own half is absolute poison, and makes my eyes bleed. Give me flying wingers and fullbacks hitting the byline and whipping the ball in to a big fuck off target man to knock on to a nippy wee striker,

I’d rather watch 2010 Dundee United than most of the “big teams” that play this Tiki-Taka pish every game.

Re: Spain

Is that JD stealing my thunder above. So glad to see yet another set of let’s-bore-fans-to-death-with-endless-turgid-stuff merchants going out of the competition. My view is this fad has lasted far too long and followers of the fad like United have had too much damage done to them.

Re: Spain

Few years ago everyone was raving about this type of football.  It was seen as “the right way to play”.  Folk who disagreed were “living in the Stone Age”.

Funny how now everyone hates it.

Re: Spain

Played the right way it can be fantastic, played like Sain have done this tournament and it's turgid shite.

Re: Spain

Add in Germany to the boring football teams.  Teams where the centre backs get twice as many touches as the strikers is not what i want to watch.

Re: Spain

I think what you're all trying to say is.  Dont play like Spain. Play like England.

Agreed lads.

England have scored 8 goals? How many from open play? 2 and one of those was a fluke. Hardly wingers bombing forward is it?

Would be over the moon if our set pieces look like that next season though eh?

I'd rather we played the way JerryDungle mentioned at the top. Can't rely on set pieces to win matches--leave that to teams that lack creativity in open play. Just a shame we'll no get the chance to see Mbappe run at that England defence---now that would be funny.

Re: Spain

I dont know about this thread. I never once looked at the way we played under Csaba and thought "you known what's wrong with us? We play a bit too much like Spain".

I think for the most part it was "you know what's wrong with us? These players are fucking shit."

The most part for me was the way we play which gives no players a chance to shine. I’ve said it before Hopkins would have got our squad up and Libby would have stayed down if they had Csaba in charge playing his stupid system

Re: Spain

Loved the way Japan played. Another great example for Csaba to copy. Belgium’s superstars were so lucky

Re: Spain

Quite enjoyed the way Belgium played though, after going 2-0 down.

Interesting that they resorted to a more direct style when they really needed to score. I've seen even the mighty Barcelona do the same. Makes you wonder why they don't just start off like that then they can piss about with their sideways passing once they are 2 or 3 nil up.

Re: Spain

Great original post JerryDungle, as the great man put it "you are either defending or attacking"

People need to be aware of their level and their team mates abilities. Span and Barcelona 2008-2012 worked as they had two exception footballers in central midfield, plus Barcelona had Messi.

For most other teams, it doesn't work. Sadly Jackie, McKinnon and Csaba somehow thought/think this will work for United

It reminds me of the Columbia keeper doing a scorpian kick save against England when I was at high school, the next day we were all trying it in the playground and none of us could do it, I think one muppet  (Rangers fan)broke his collarbone trying.
