One of the rawest, most honest & free flowing interviews you will ever see.

Simon Ferry is about as much of a 'Weegie' as you are.

Re: Andy McLaren Interview

Best Simon Ferry player interview yet.

Nae 'airs or graces' at all about Andy Mc.

A normal working class guy from a deprived area who went on and lived his dream.

One of my favourite ever Utd players.

Re: Andy McLaren Interview

No mention of eithers time at the fun? surely the lowest point in any players career.

He's that bad he's good in a way.

His dollyness and almost childlike curiousity makes the interviewees seem at ease.

He really is a bit 'wet behind the ears' though for a guy of his age. When Andy Mc referred to wee Jym as 'the Ayatollah' you could see the nickname totally flew over his head.

Probably the same as the majority of players. Obviously there's exceptions like Stuart Armstrong or Craig Easton but most you see being interviewed are pretty dense. Probably due to focusing on being a player rather than school stuff or studies. Fair enough.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

Re: Andy McLaren Interview

That was a superb watch, raw interview and clear to see the banter that went on back in the day.

Re: Andy McLaren Interview

Andy went thro the mill & came out the other end battle-scarred with a Scottish Cup, a Scottish cap, 400 senior games & a thousand memories. He didn't receive any help but what he could pass on to young players now is too much to disregard. CV into Tannadice Andy.

Re: Andy McLaren Interview

It's also clear to hear even after McLean retired he still had a massive hold over the players.

Re: Andy McLaren Interview

Enjoyable interview, but a bit of sugar coating from Andy and the interviewer regarding the difficulties the player faced. Andy has faced huge metal difficulties and come out the other side, but his hardest of times weren't even glossed over there, they were completely omitted.

I don't agree with several of the comments here about the interview, as I don't think it was entirely 'honest', nor do I think football players would generally come across as more intelligent if they'd concentrated at school to a greater level. (As an aside, and with wide experience in the education system, schools don't suit a large number of pupils to reach a level their abilities should allow.............imo!)

And, of course as Andy says in his interview, he spent a month at The Priory, thus did receive help, although how adequate and suitable that was is debatable.

But the interview was entertaining, and I was surprised to see it, like others of Si Ferry's, was conducted at Hampden. This may be down to William Hill's sponsorship.

Which brings me to another gripe: if alcohol sponsorship is banned due to addiction, as outlined by Andy, why is gambling a welcome partner for the football authorities?
