Craig curran set to sign aswell, delighted we are getting our business done early

Not happy with Curran at all. Looking at his record, I can’t see what he’s done to justify us signing him, throw in the fact that he’s been crocked for a large part of his time at Ross County as well as the fact that he’s about 5 foot 6, along with our 3 other strikers. I wouldn’t go near him with a barge pole, personally. We badly need proven goalscorers, and unquestionably mor height up front, and this boy brings neither.

However, what I have red about him is he’s a incredibly hard worker, I’ve seen a lot of tweets about Nicky Clark needing someone up front with him that will run aboot like fuck and help play of them! time will tell I’ll no be writing him off

Maybe so, but what's been clear since day one in the Fundesliga is that you absolutely require a target man up top to be most effective in this league. We're now 3 seasons deep into the one-season jolly and have still never bothered to get one.

To be fair to Craig Curran, he's a good bit taller than 5' 6". But you are correct, his scoring record isn't great, however, he rarely played as a main striker at Ross County. A couple of seasons ago I thought he looked a very good player, prior to a derby concussion against ICT.
Hopefully, we'll have a more robust option signing on for up front too before the season starts.

I was a believer that a target man is a must for getting out of this league but St.Mirren have proven thats not necessarily the case.
Their top scorers were Lewis Morgan, Gavin Reilly & Cammy Smith. Neither are blessed with a huge physique.
All got well into double figures for goals.
I'd still prefer a target man to even come off the bench now and again, if need be.

Craig Curran is 5' 9".

Totally underwhelmed with Curran if he signs.
Not sure signing boys from teams that have been relegated from the Premiership is the way to go.
There's a reason these teams were relegated i.e. their players weren't good enough.
Now that's not to say these boys might not get us out of the Championship. They might do.
But what then?
Handing out 2 year deals here to guys who are either
1) Unproven
2) Injured
3) Relegators

We are beginning to look like a team, albeit a very small team.

See I have a wee problem with individual players being deemed not good enough because they have been relegated as part of a team.
Andy Robertson got relegated with Hull, but he moved to Liverpool and is nailing that LB spot as his own. I don't think even the most bitter of Dee's could say he is not a good player.
Maybe it was the fact that the rest of his team were pish or they management got their tactics wrong that Ross County got relegated, then again maybe it was entirely down to Curran.
I don't know enough about the boy, so he gets a chance to prove himself before being written off.

I take your point Macho Man. Certainly not all players who suffer relegation are bad players. Most certainly not.
Maurice Malpas for instance suffered relegation with us and he's one of our best ever defenders.
But with certain players there's a pattern.
Take Callum Booth for instance. Relegated twice in the past 5 years with Hibs and Partick. So i would say Championship is his level. Curran just relegated with County and failed to make the mark at a few clubs. Also a history of injuries.
Pretty underwhelmed with our dealings so far tbh.
p.s. Not commenting on Wardrop as know nothing of the lad at all.

I'd have been happy to have got Curran two years ago, so it's churlish if I complained now.

Good point, Macho Man. Maybe getting rid of McIntyre and Dodds, and replacing him with Coyle, didn't help their overall cause.
For those worrying about height I will simply say remember THE LOG 😱

A wee bit unfair Tek. I think Booth was on loan the entire season at Raith when Hibs went down.

Fair enough.
I still have my reservations about these boys. Wouldn't have minded so much if it were 1 year deals.
But two and three year deals makes me feel uneasy that we are stuck with yet more players we have to pay-off if it goes tits up again next season and yet another new Manager is appointed.
We'll see i guess.

TBH, We tried 1 year deals and it failed. It simply doesn't mean enough to the players if they know thy will be gone the following season.
These boys now have a collective aim, to get back to the top flight and play there next season for United.
Its a decent way of building team spirit.

Wicki's got Craig Curran scoring 69 goals in 371 appearances. That's less than 1 goal every 5 games.
Compare Nicki Clark, 111 goals in 321 games, that's just better than 1 goal every 3 games.
So if both play 35 games next season we can expect Curran to score 7 goals & Clark to score 12.
Compare too Skippy who has scored 203 goals in 600 appearances, just on 1 in 3. He's kept that ratio nearly everywhere he's played except Celtic where he scored 1 in every 2 games. Last season with us he scored 16 in 40 which is better than his career ratio.
Just hope Curran will be raisin his game
