Think its a good idea to be honest, players will give their all for a contract, we could possibly sign a few gems in the meantime.

Yeh remember kudos coming on in a trial game down south a few year back.. 3 year deal

Note to United- ensure that this is a closed door affair and not open to the public.

Was this what they meant by saying that they were well advanced in building the new squad for next season!? Not a bad thing per se, but hope there is more, much more going on than this.

Tidy, we are a club that resorts to gimmicks now
Good to see MM address his number one concern of poor recruitment over the past few years getting us where we are with a bounce match of mercenaries- what can go wrong

We don’t need players who will give their all for a contract. We need players who will give their all and be good enough once they’ve got the contract.
This just shows they have no idea who they want to sign. Can’t say I’m surprised.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this. Clubs do this all the time. It's one game, someone stands out and he'll get brought in.
Some clubs have a full trialist "day" bring 4 or 5 back for another day and usually you'll take maybe 1 or nobody. One off thing like this is common and well worth doing.

And something like this has fk all to do with a recruitment policy. It's a trial game, end of.

My 1st thought wasn't that it's a bad idea more that this better be done fast.
It's not going to be our only recruitment method and doesn't prove anything yet good or bad.
Probably been fed by some agent to the Sun and folk are reacting.

Totally different what happened with the signing of kudos.

If we get 1 player out of it, it’ll be worth it.

Agreed.
Plus we are able to sift out the wheat from the chaff so to speaker quickly.
I think it's a good idea.

Can't be any worse than our usual youtube scouting missions

Of course it's a good idea.
It's how we use the trial that will count. And it won't be our main source of recruitment by a long way.

Any person with half a brain can see a player after about 45mins of a game and determine if they have ability to play at a level. Given their movement, communication, tactical and technical on and off the ball you can see it.
To go on video footage is folly of the highest order imo within 15mins even I could see the likes of Lyng, Nicholls and Bodul were no where near the level required.

I agree but also ken it's not as simple as we want.
Glad we are diversifying in our recriutment strategy if this is true and I'm happy Luggy is involved on top of what we have but the problems whether assessing players in the flesh or on video are being able to judge a player when variants like form, fittness, vision, quality of opponant, link up/reading the game/creativity, mentality etc are analysed when you consider how they play with strangers as it's hard to gauge their fitba brain on a trial match when desperation and greed might come through over qualities you might favour in a gelled team.
I'm nae expert and won't make out to be one, just pointing out it's not simple.
That's why I like the idea of changing the recruitment approach if in fact we are and broadening the approach.
Fuck knows if we went Youtube mad afore in the main. I hope tae fuck we build a team to win this league this time.
Things have to change massively away fae whatever we did afore and this attitude of having more quality and belonging up a league.
We don't need trials for any of the Championship players we want as they have already done that against us when it mattered unless we use them as known opposition for the trialists fae elsewhere.

I think the concern is that this type of event might be ok to unearth a player if it is augmented with a good recruitment policy.
The fact is, we knew we were getting rid of a lot of players. You would have thought we would have identified some targets that don’t need a trial.
If we had addressed our CH and goal keeper positions through due diligence and scouting, this would likely be a good idea to supplement the squad.
Doing it so early without addressing key areas in the team make me nervous that we don’t have a clear plan for the players we are looking for

First two, aye. Bodul was a very good player, poorly used by management. He's played around 50 times in the Russian Premier League since he left Scotland.

"as well as targets they’ve been sourcing, United have received a flood of player recommendations from agents and other contacts all over Europe.
They are working through what is a growing list of free agents and rather than have those of interest coming in dribs and drabs once pre-season gets under way next month, the plan will be to bring them over in a group.
They’ll then be watched in training for a few days and one or two games will be organised for manager Csaba Laszlo to see them in action."
