And if so what were you in for?How long were you in for and where?
I am lucky in that despite a few ailments over the years i've only ever stayed in hospital once in my life.
I got my tonsils removed when i was about 8 and was in Stonehouse Hospital (which i think may be demolished now) for a week.
Just remember being in a room with another wee boy about the same age and the two of us being scared the minute our parents left. The hospital was big, very dark and grim.Very old fashioned.
My over-riding memories are -
- Reading 'The Broons' annual cover to cover, which was in a pile of kids books (and the only good one there).Still remember it had a yellow and black tartan cover that year.
- I had a wobbly tooth and before i got taken into surgery this Asian Doctor shoogling it and then (and without any warning) ripping it clean out my mouth, much to my utter shock.
- The horrible feeling of getting woozy after the general anasthetic was administered.
- Getting a Strawberry Milkshake in a Cafe in Strathaven on the way home.Like a big fancy 'American style' one you see in old movies. My Dad wasn't really one to lavish treats on me and my brothers so this stands out clearly in my mind as a happy memory.

2008 St James (Jimmy's) Leeds. Bladder cancer.
2009 Jimmy's. Kidney stones.
At 77 years of age I reckon I've got off quite light! Mind you, I also have diabetes with complications, prostatitis, pernicious anaemia, but these haven't hospitalised me - YET!!

I was only in overnight once when I was a kid, in the DRI, I think I was about 8.
I was playing with my cousin in Balgay Park when we came across a rope swing in a tree, I tested it first to see if it was okay and it was sound. My cousin (a year older) was a bit feart so I said I would go again even higher to show him it was okay... Next thing I know I’m being carried to a car and taken to hospital. I don’t know if the branch snapped, the rope snapped or if I just let go but I fell from good height, my cousin started screaming then my aunty came and found us.
It was quite controversial as my aunty was meant to be looking after us in her house but she was out meeting a priest in the Park for a “chat” and we just wandered off and they had no idea where we were.
I had cracked ribs and stayed in for two nights, I also pissed myself.
I stayed in the Children’s Ward at Ninewells in September with my daughter for five nights, staying in a fold down bed next to hers. Totally different these days, they have massive play rooms, play assistants to look after the kids during the day. She didn’t want to come home!
I’ve got a stay booked for the 26th of November too. I tore my ACL and fractured my knee in July and I’m getting knee surgery in a few weeks, was meant to get it done last month but had to cancel due to a family bereavement.

Six days for getting ma gall bladder removed.
Mind you I was let out a day after the op - the other days were spent "nil by mouth" only to get told the op was being cancelled each time!
Bummer at the time likes.

Had tonsillitis as a bairn and was suffering severe hallucinations (kept on seeing this weird figure in MY bedroom who looked like shrek on the smack!) Anyway i got manhandled by my father into the car and off to Ninewells where i got my 1st sniff of the gas and when i came to i remember all these people in white coats staring at me and one beautiful blonde in a white mini skirt who winked at me. (This was the 1st time i shot bubbles too) Anyway much to my pleasure some rookie had done a hatchet job in my mouth and cut more than my tonsils which resulted in short term loss of speech but a weeks holiday away from Shrek and time to develop my 1st relationship with Urika who kindly looked after my needs for the rest of my stay. If the old man thought he had bother getting me in you should have seen him try to get me out! All in all a wonderful experience.

Aff the gas but still shooting bubbles
Ps. On a serious note I'm sorry to hear off the more serious hospital visits especially Leedsey whose doctors records must look like the scroll of the dead sea in comparison to the more fortunate on here, Glad to see your vintage has covered United's glory years and some more to come. Stay fit, Stay cool, Shed Rule

Cheers, mate. If I was a dog I'd have been put down years ago!
Not only our glory years, but those of our illustrious neighbours! How I hated being the only United supporter in my class, and among my mates, but I have been laughing at them for even longer now! Not that there are many of them left. I'm seeing their boots off left, right, and centre!!

1st time ever, fucked ankle I think is the technical term, op done today, weekend in here and a few weeks/ months recovery now. That's about it really.
Don't really even know what caused it.
Honestly worst things not havin been at the footy, even with the way we've played. It's just too uncomfortable to sit about like that for any length of time and drivings been an issue. Should get back just in time for the relegation confirmation game and the cup final!
Fair play to anyone who's ever stayed in long tho, in a room with a guy who sleeps wi the light on, a snorer/talker and a guy who may be dead, he hasn't moved an inch in about 5hrs. Sky go on the iPad for the night and net on the phone it is.

One of many really good ot threads. Nice to see it resurrected. I've got a feeling I may end up back in hospital again soon with my knee. I banged it at work last June and its been causing me bother ever since. As much as I wouldn't swap the NHS, the hoops you need to go through are ridiculous. I've haf umpteen different GP's look at it, some saying there is a problem, others saying there is nothing wrong. I've had an ultrasound scan, an x-ray both coming back clear. I keep asking for an MRI scan but they ssy they've got to explore all avenues first. Now been referred to orthopedics. Frustrating. (furious)

MRIs cost money they'll delay that as long as they can. Without getting too political it's not their fault it's just an absolute lack of funding for the right jobs in the NHS.
Do u stay local bud?
