Re: 25 years ago today - Wee Jim's last game in the Dug-Out

Wee Jim's last 'Manager's Notes' in the club programme.

This was just a couple of days after his English counterpart Brian Clough also retired from the dug-out for good.

End of an Era for British football in many ways.

Re: 25 years ago today - Wee Jim's last game in the Dug-Out

I mind arriving in slightly late after enjoying another liquid lunch, just in time for Aberdeen's opener: but celebrating it as I thought it was United who had scored.

Overall, the day was a huge anticlimax for wee Jim. Some career though, when we look back. 21 years at one club won't happen again in Scotland you'd think, and certainly not at United.

Jim McLean gave me some of my life's best memories, and the same must apply to many United fans of a certain vintage.

Funny, I was just digging through a carrier bag full of old pictures the other day and found a few pics I took from The Shed at this game.

Wish he’d stayed in the dugout for another 21 years.

No worries on how you'd be judged Jim, you are indeed a legend and as Pat said above, you gave me some of my best lifetime memories. One of the many things I liked about Jim was that he always put the fans first.
