Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

Don't think it really matters. I can't see any team that we could send out standing up to Livi. It's a shame, cos that's all it would take.

Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

I'd rather have anyone but Robson at LB.

..................................Lewis..............
.................. Durnan   Edge   Scobbie
Ralston.....Fraser.....Gillespie.....Stanton...McMullan
.......................Mikkelsen...McDonald.......

3-5-2 for me.

Out go Robson, Murdo & King. Hearts of mice.

Obvious as fuck that they will try and shut us out. Slow game down, timewaste, etc. They will go 1 uptop, with long balls into channels.

We go with as many units as possible at the back to eat these up. Is Mosh is fit, he's in for Scobbie.

This type of role would suit Ralston, with Fraser supporting and creating overloads. Stanton supporting McMullan on the other side. McDonald & Tam uptop as a two, to get on the end of the balls going into the box.

We cant go into this defensive minded, literally HAVE to go for it. We need to score 2 minimum.

That's the team and the formation for me.

Not ideal playing McMullan on the left but I can't think what else we can do (other than maybe play Smith there).

Would have Smith on the bench if not. Why not also have Chalmers and Kadded on the bench also? Can they be any worse than Lyng? We need attacking options on Friday. That and fresh legs if it goes 120 minutes.

Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

As we have nothing to lose then perhaps it is time for an attacking line up.

Lewis
Ralston Edge Durnan Murdoch
Gillespie
Fraser Stanton
Matty Smith Mikkelsen McDonald

Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

The winner plays thistle or county then, both of them have 28 and 30 points with one game left. An interesting wee note is that for the absolute horrific season wee had in 2015/16 we went down with 28 points.

Neither Thistle or County are great shakes and livi are just an effective long ball team full of hammer throwers.

Get it together lads and grow a set of balls, face up to the challenge and get the first goal. I agree with the 3-5-2 formation above although I would chuck in Matt Smith partly because he scored against them last time.

This can be done.

That actually looks half decent to me.

You're right...nothing to lose - go and attack and maybe, just maybe we can score early and put then under a bit of pressure.

And you know what, draw or lose and at least it looks like we tried.

That would be my team and could have a chance if they actually went for it. Don't try the silky stuff cos it doesn't work and Livvy are a team of cloggers who have no qualms about putting the boot in. Hopefully we'll get a better ref than Walsh.

Is it maybe better to drop Murdoch altogether and push Gillespie back to LB?  Did he not sometimes play there for Hamilton (or was it RB he played?).  If we do that we could push Stanton back into DM and stick either King or McMullan in?

Don Robertson is the referee, ex-player, you'd hope he'd have an idea about what constitutes gamesmanship.

I'm a bit like that, however, my optimism comes crashing down when I remember Csaba is picking and organising the team.

Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

The highlights from Monday night.

Want Murdoch, Robson and Lyng nowhere to be seen on Friday night and sadly have little confidence left in Harry Lewis either. But we're hamstrung on that one.

p.s also happy Flood won't be available for selection on Friday night if i'm honest. Would rather see Briels, Slater or Gillespie get a chance.

Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

First goal in particular was so soft. Even worse than I remember at the time.

Second one, completely avoidable but it was only a matter of time before we got punished for pissing around at the back

Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

Better team got through over the 2 legs.

Both Monday night's game and tonight's were very similar in pattern.

They score very early on. We rally and equalise. We then go on to play some nice stuff and dominate the rest of the first half. At half time in both games our game plan should be crystal clear go out and score more goals.

Unfortunately in both games we (for me) fail to largely turn up in the 2nd half. In both games we start to run out of ideas around the 65-70 minute mark. In both games Laszlo fails to react quick enough to the game going in this direction and Livi starting to win every second ball and cutting us open.

From that point onwards they absolutely hammer us tbqh (just like Monday night). We look desperate and only create one really good chance (McDonald's).

Just nowhere near good enough over the 2 legs. By players or Management. Fans completely let down again after travelling to all four games in great numbers.

Lewis - Sad to say I will be relieved to see the back of young Harry. Might turn out a good Keeper in time (I hope he does as he seems a first class young man) but he is nowhere near ready to be a No.1 at a club of our size. Their goal tonight once again summed up his absolute failure to deal with crosses across his own 6 yard box. He should have wiped their boy out (just as he should have done to Rooney at Pittodrie). Goalies ALWAYS get the benefit of doubt from Refs. He will learn this one day, maybe. 6/10

Ralston - Really rate the kid. Wasn't his best game tonight though. Some poor decision making with final balls and he was to blame for losing his man at their goal. 5/10

Durnan - Total shite from him tonight. Booked and then commits the very same foul he got booked for about 3 times in the next 10-15 minutes. Have largely defended him over the past 2 years but think tonight made up my mind = BIN 5/10

Mohsni - Again (like Ralston) I rate him and he has added to our defence and team since he came in. Again though (like Ralston) I thought he was poor tonight. One great last ditch block to save a certain goal from Murdoch's fuck up, but that aside I though he all to often dithered on the ball and generally looked a bit sluggish and slow tonight. Also a ridiculous blatant handball in the 2nd half from one of their corners that should have seen him sent off and Livi get a pen. 4/10

Murdoch - Fucking awful again. That moment in the second half where he let's the fucking ball bounce and their forward gets one on one only for Mohsni to bail him out...well fuck me. Just Sunday league stuff 4/10

Stanton - Game sort of passed him by for me tonight. 5/10

Gillespie - Probably my MOTM for us tonight, I thought he was very good. Done the work of two players in that DMF role. Showed calmness on the ball, good range of passing and a wee bit of dig. Would be happy to keep him as a squad player for the Championship next season 7/10

Fraser - Great goal from him. But he so one footed it's comical. He also all to often flatters to deceive for me. A good skilful player with 'potential' to perhaps get better but he would be a fool to chase a buck and not stay with us to develop for another year minimum as he would get swallowed up down South. FACT. Needs to hit the weights and toughen up. 6/10

McDonald - Has looked like he gave a fuck in the last few weeks and finished our top scorer with 16 goals despite

1)Having piss poor service all season
and
2)Often playing Number 10
He looks a deeply frustrated figure at Utd though due to the above reasons and
3)Csaba Laszlo being his Boss
So I guess it's 'Hooroo' Scottie. 6/10

King - Not sure where to start with this player. As I've said previously there are times I watch him and I think he has something but I personally can't recall seeing a professional footballer who consistently plays at such a high level who has such poor crossing ability for a winger. It is absolutely ludicrous how often his final ball/cross lets him and us down 4/10

Mikkelsen - A big fairy. Spends more time on the ground waving his hands about than on the ball. 4/q0

Subs -

Smith - Only had one chance when he came on and snatched at it a bit but at least he hit the target unlike most of our players 5/10

McMullan - Brought on far too late in the game and tie to make an impact. looked a good player early on in the season. Now looks totally finished at Tannadice 4/10

Laszlo - Picked the correct line-up tonight imo but again waited too long to make his subs when it was obvious the game was turning. Again his half time 'team talk' has failed to inspire us as quite the opposite has happened and we've been outplayed in the second half with our players ultimately looking deflated and out of ideas. 1/10

Re: Livingston v dundee utd play off semi 2nd leg

You've been generous with these ratings, Tek.

Stuck with what we've got, and if Csaba is staying, stuck here, or worse, for a long fucking time.

Got what we deserved. Gutted but not unexpected.

The decline that began on 31st January 2015 continues.
