Lots in the news about the United v Roma semi final in 84 recently, I was only a bairn back then, so don't remember any of it. Immensely proud that we reached the top four of European clubs, and a bit sad that we never celebrate it due to what happened in Rome.
I had a conversation in a pub with an older united fan years ago, who had a theory that either wee Jim or Walter Smith "got in the faces" of the Roma players before kick off at Tannadice, which lead to their reaction in the away leg. Does anyone know if this true or not?

Good evening, kiwiarab.
I doubt that happened, given the entourages the foreign teams had surrounding the players, even then.
Reckon the Roma reaction was down to press mischief making rather than anything else. The two bits that stick in my mind about the two legs are Tommy Coyne had a great chance late on at Tannadice to make it 3-0 on the night, and of course Ralphie putting an effort over the bar in Rome early on when it looked easier to net.

The 'programme' you are talking about Billy, I don't know if that was produced in any official capacity. A lot of foreign clubs produced weekly or monthly magazines, rather than programmes.
I'm sure there must be quite a few programme collectors on here who could confirm (I sold my collection, to my regret nowadays, in my teens, to fund ...........

Aye Pat. OUR prog. has the front cover with a decent colour photo of the squad at the top of the front cover, with the DUFC Logo top left, and "DUNDEE UNITED" printed across the top of the page. It's a good enough print that you can easily read the Adidas branding on the tops and the 2 balls on the grass.
The Roman version has been photocopied and its size reduced to about 90% of its original size (photocopy I'd guess), and about 3mm cropped off the whole perimiter of the photo, probly to disguise the edges and the staples. It's grey-scale instead of colour (that's another giveaway for a photocopy). The quality of the print is poor, and ye canna really see any of the Adidas branding on the ball even with a decent magnifying glass.
Another stitch-up. Gled their phuckin empire went under.
