Playing short

I cant understand why United play free kicks and corners short. If we had some ability there might be a case but we are not good at passing, not good at keeping possession and apart from Fraser on a good day, no-one has any vision. What we do when playing short is to forego the opportunity of attacking and putting defenders and keepers under pressure and instead often put our own defenders under pressure.

First goal today came from a Willo free kick which could have been launched into the Queens box but was taken short and 2 passes later Queens were advancing up the park and eventually scoring from our attacking free kick.
The goal might have been avoided if defenders had been prepared to close down opponents but our players always seem to think its somebody's else's job to close down not theirs.

We scored 11 times from corners and free kicks crossed into the box this season, we have yet to score from a corner or free kick played short.

Bring back the (real) "United Way" not the kiddy-on Martin version

Re: Playing short

Will flood tries to take every free kick we have “quick” regardless of field position or any perceivable advantage.
It annoys the fuck out of me as it’s usually a 5 yard sideways pass that may or may not get to one of our players but will always nullify any advantage the free kick gave us in the first place
It amazes me as to why no one has had a word with him in the years he has been pulling this pish
Half the time he does it he catches his own team mates out as they are setting up for a decent ball in to the box and aren’t facing the ball
