David Goodwillie

Wants to return to a high level than what he is playing at now, in his article , https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/teams/clyde/david-goodwillie-eyes-higher-level-amid-tough-moral-questions-1-4714684/amp?__twitter_impression=true

Would u have him back??

Re: David Goodwillie

Obviously his personal history would have to be taken into consideration. But from a purely footballing perspective it’d be a big yes from me, the amount of goals he’s scored this season will have done wonders for his confidence, something that was severely lacking in his last spell with us.

Most importantly, he’d play for the shirt, he loves United, and knows just how much unwavering support he received from the United fans in his darkest days, no chance you’d see the same lack of effort and apathy in him that we’re seeing from the current bunch of losers that are disgracing the jersey.

Re: David Goodwillie

Too much baggage for me - we've enough problems of our own for now - plus his track record post United is shit and a wee purple patch in the bottom tier of Scottish fitba shouldn't disguise this.

Re: David Goodwillie

Difficult question.

However, If he had been here this season it would have made a massive difference to us and where we are I suspect.

I am tending towards giving the lad a chance again.

Re: David Goodwillie

I would have him in our squad, Yes he comes with bad baggage, but lets face it we hardly have a dazzling status to tarnish at the moment, a little more dirt on top of our shit heap couldn't hurt at this point. imo.

He isn't. A judge ruled that he was in a civil case, which isn't a 'conviction'. No corroboration is required in such a case, one judge simply believed the girl claimant more than he believed Goodwillie.

Regards him coming back, I'd probably go with 'no', although it's because of the weight of expectation rather than his ability.

You are completely wrong with that statement. He is not a convicted rapist. He was not prosecuted as it was deemed there was insufficient evidence to prove the charge in a court of Law. Therefore he has no conviction.

The civil case was on the balance of probability which requires considerably less evidence than Beyond Reasonable Doubt. Corroboration is key in Criminal Law.

However the whole scenario is a massive problem for Goodwillie and I doubt he will ever play at a higher level. Perhaps if we were not in such a mess we would not be discussing this.

Re: David Goodwillie

One thing is for sure if we dont take him someone at our level will. 25 goals in the 3rd tier is more than enough to suggest he can get goals in the championship.

Pat has responded to the post in the correct way.

Better to point out the facts than sweep things under the carpet.

On Goodie coming back i would have to say no. The last thing our club needs is another situation that further divides our support.

Re: David Goodwillie

Okay apologies for the 'convicted rapist' post but civil case or not the judges ruling and summing up in the case was very damning, plus anyone who has actually read the transcripts of the case would find it very hard to side with Goodie or Robertson, a very sleazy affair.

What a stupid, totally irrelevant question!

ITs not really irrelevant though is it.
The point being made is even if it can’t be proven in a court of law, do you think he raped someone?
Because whether or not it has been proven as a criminal case or not, if it seems likely that he did - do you want him at the club.
As was said before, the civil case and the transcript was pretty fucking damning.

That’s the question being raised.

Re: David Goodwillie

Nothing to do with the football, or even the DG case, but if the transcript in any civil case is as 'damning' as suggested by some, it is odd that the Crown Office decided not to go ahead with a prosecution.

Have a read mate and form your own opinion.
If it was my daughter I’d be disappointed in the CP but that’s just my opinion

If my daughter had been involved I'd be far more than disappointed in the two players, and would likely have sought retribution. I'd also have felt very let down by my daughter.

As far as 'the law' is concerned, it's a drove of asses. I've little doubt the minor celebrity of the two men involved had a bearing on the outcomes.

Re: David Goodwillie

From a football perspective only - Goodwillie was successful with us 1st time around playing off a target man (Daly) and being fed by a winger (Conway) and attack minded midfielders (Swanson etc). When he came back he was played as a lone striker  and received little service or support. Suspect he might be more than good if he were to play alongside a target man, winger and forward looking creatives in an attacking set up but simply adding him to the current squad playing the current turgid stuff under the current numptie of a manager will not help either him or the team. I've said it before, even Messi would struggle the way we play.
