During the 2000–01 season, United used 41 different players, with a further two named as substitutes who did not make an appearance on the pitch. The table below shows the number of appearances and goals scored by each player.[2][3]No.NatPosPlayerTotalBank of Scotland PremierleagueTennent's Scottish CupCIS Insurance CupAppsGoalsAppsGoalsAppsGoalsAppsGoals1GKAlan Combe26023000302DFJohn McQuillan18012+30002+103DFStephen Wright705000204MFDavid Hannah28319+42311+105DFJason de Vos400330402+106MFJoachim Fernandez7060000+107MFCraig Easton39628+6541108MFTassos Venetis1513+11100109FWAlex Mathie503+1000109FWGustavo Fuentes303000009FWBeto Naveda1427+620+100010FWAlphonse Tchami4030001010FWDerek Lilley227186410011MFNeil Heaney1407+500+101012MFStéphane Léoni705+10000+1012FWPaul Robinson602+40000013GKPaul Gallacher190150400014DFHasney Aljofree31224+22203015FWMvondo Atangana1208+30000+1016MFDanny Griffin221181400017FWJim Hamilton24214+62301018MFJim Paterson715+11001019FWSteven Thompson37418+1341+301+1020DFDavid Worrell0000000021DFDavid Partridge24017+201+103022GKPat Onstad0000000023MFMarcelino Galoppo2020000023DFJim Lauchlan283231421024MFJamie Buchan41133+212+103025FWStephen McConalogue1443+81002+1326MFHugh Davidson1216+51001027DFTony Smith501+200+100+1028DFJohn Licina805+20001029MFCarlos Marcora100+10000030MFFrancisco Ramírez100+10000030MFJamie Fullarton503+20000031FWSean O'Connor211+11000032DFDavid McCracken916+31000033MFCharlie Miller286245410035MFKevin McDonald200+10001036MFDarren Brady100+10000042DFJamie McCunnie190150400044FWDavid Winters500+500000

Smith inherited an absolute mess from Luggy. McLean then forced all the Hondurans on him. We were so far adrift by November it was scary. McLean taking back seat post-banjo allowed Smith to put together a team which was expensive, but also got us out of the shite and got us to a cup semi beating the ex-huns on the way. Most of the foreigners were released  after a few games with a minimal payoff (a long established McLean maneovre of having foreigners sign a signing on forms and a release form at the same time). I think Smith gets a really raw deal off of arabs that is undeserved. The person who should get shite is Luggy. An absolutely shite manager whose ridiculously expensive team played long ball pish and literally could not pass the ball 5 yards to each other. I still think some folk would have been happier if we'd just kept Sturrocks team and went down. Smith probably saved our club from certain death if we'd went down that season.

Re: 21 Years since the last PK victory.

When the Lugmeister did that Q and A on Mad I had to restrain myself from going on and tearing him a new one about his time as manager. And yet he was my favourite Utd player as a kid. Its taken us 13 years to recover from his tenure as manager.

Re: 21 Years since the last PK victory.

agree with the above tbh...luggy was my hero ...done a question and answer in the dode fox as part of the tangerine and black magazine and told a lot of bull about Billy Dodds, said he would never leave and if he did it would be on utds terms..week later he's away cause a clause he had, no utd...

smithy built a decent team with lilley etc..jamie fullerton was brilliant in behind charlie millar before he near snapped his ankle in half

Re: 21 Years since the last PK victory.

Smithys problem was we never improved the next season (never really got worse either but we lost DeVos and never replaced him) then the following season after that he tried to mix it up, bought expensise dross like McGowne and Gunnlagsson with Eddie's money and it didnt work.

Charlie Miller was brilliant. Jim Hamilton was also underrated. Danny Griffin was really good when he was fit, particularly in midfield. Remember the game vs Killie when Fullarton got injured and the sickening sound then his scream. Awful for anyone to suffer.

Im sure he did ask in the papers the next day. That was a brilliant game. End to end stuff. Falkirk were a really good side at that time.

Believe it or not, John McQuillan landscaped my dads backies, it was a fucking massive job, he dug a huge amount of it out himself, slabbed and chuckied it. Did a braw job tae.  Good to see he found his true calling eventually.
