potential signings from premier

Seen this link on facebook

all the players from top league out of contract in summer.
I would imagine we will be sniffing about some of them to try and lead us to the championship title next season.

Re: potential signings from premier

We tried signing these types of players last summer, and it hasn’t worked. The majority of boys still kicking about lower-mid table Scottish clubs in their mid-late 20’s realise they’re mediocre and unlikely to really do anything within the game, thus are unmotivated, hoping simply to earn a 1 or 2 year deal at another no-mark Scottish club.

We need to go back to what we’re best at, and what’s best for us; finding hungry, ambitious, talented players with something to prove, and sell them Dundee United as the springboard to bigger things for them. Let’s face it, Dundee United isn’t the pinnacle of anyone’s ambitions, but we can be the platform on which they make a name for themselves, as we’ve done for so many young players.

Guys like Vaughan and Furtado at Raith, Quitongo, O’Ware and Russell at Morton, all strike me as the types I’m talking about,  Shankland at Ayr’s the top scorer in the country and has been involved in 30 goals for Ayr this season, the boy Hardie looked a talent for Livingston when we played them the other week.

I’d sooner take a punt on boys like this, hoping they grasp their chance to shine, than spend another season watching uninspired, mediocre shit like Scobbie, Quinn & Murdoch go through the motions every week.

Re: potential signings from premier

Don't know how good folk think these players are. It's a matter of opinion. But you can be sure if they are highly enough thought of by their current teams, they'll be offered new contracts, or if another Premiership side offers them a contract, they'll take it. Think ATM we're no high enough up the peckin order, to have much chance of the pick of the crop.

we will be offering more in wages or equal to a few of the premier teams which will be a big thing for players.

Agree with this, also being a third year in the championship these players will probably be more in line with our playing budget.

Re: potential signings from premier

Agreeing with much of what Jerry Dungle has said, although we still need a couple of experienced heads in among hungry young players wanting to progress. And while some of the players named have not performed too well at Championship level (eg Shankland), the Morton trio mentioned would all enhance our squad, although Jai Quitongo seems injury prone.

Signing players with bad injury record has been, to me, our big downfall this season.

Exactly this.

Re: potential signings from premier

I'd rather have a team than 11 strangers.
Sign who you want but if it doesn't blend then they're wasting their time coming.
There are a lot of decent players on the list but it's making a team out of them that matters.

Shankland’s always been quite highly rated, Swansea even had him on trial down there in the summer. Seems like he’s finally found his confidence. He and Vaughan at Raith have scored or assisted 55 goals between them so far this season. Surely the jump from League One to the Championship isn’t so big that both couldn’t bang in even half of what they’ve scored this season.

With those sort of numbers, our esteemed Chief Scout/Director of Football/Double-Glazing Salesman should at least be going to watch them to decide whether they’re capable of stepping up to our level.

I can’t see how the two of them could possibly do any worse than Keatings or McDonald. They’d at least look interested when they’re playing.

Re: potential signings from premier

From that list I would try and sign:=Danny Rogers, or Alan Mannus for GK
RB- Keith Watson (should have never been released)
RM- David Templeton (should have signed him last season)
CM- Abdul Osman and/or Murray Davidson (ball winners, experience and dig)
LM-  Steven Lawless (can play number 10 roll or out either flank, good player, skillful and creative)
ST- Ryan Hardie and Alex Schalk (both score goals despite having shit service)

I would also like to state there are players in the championship and in England that are out contract.

For central defence - Curtis Good, Thoams O'Ware
For wing back positions - Josh Mullan (RB) and Mark Russell (LB)
For midfield - Scott Pittman
Strikers - Jai Quitongo, Shnakland,
