If Taylor is just a 'Chief Scout' then why would we need to appoint anyone else to pop over the Border to scout players?

I know for a fact that an Agent who had previously dealt with McKinnon was told last year to now phone Darren Taylor when discussing players.

Luggy lives in England so he’s not popping over the border. He also has the contacts from working down there for 20 years.
I know people who are in day to day contact with Taylor, and also worked with him in his football capacity.
I also provided links of him saying what his role was and that he didn’t have final say the last time this was brought up.
Your posting on the matter is agenda driven and not really dealing in facts.
I get you don’t like a DoF, but just claiming because Taylor has that as a title but quite clearly isn’t one is a poor way to illustrate your point.
An actual DoF appointment would be someone more senior than the manager in terms of experience not less senior.

I didn't mean Luggy would be popping over the border. I meant if Taylor was (as you say) only Chief Scout why would we need to employ ANOTHER Chief Scout to implement the simplest of tasks under his remit? You said yourself we can't afford to pay him off.

So for 80 grand a year we are getting a 'Chief Scout' who doesn't even scout players South of the Border?

I never once said he had 'final say' on signing players btw. But i am quite certain he has had a big influence on certain recent one's and there is no agenda on my part. What i said about him dealing with agents etc and NOT McKinnon was 100% FACT and Motherwellarab will back that up as well.

You said on another post that laszlo didn’t sign the players so we should get rid of Taylor.
Pretty sure you’ve said it a couple of times before.
It’s pretty common knowledge in football circles in Dundee he was given the title but isn’t much more than a glorified scout.
If you say now you don’t think he has final say on signings but just looks at the players, what else would you call him?

You are twisting my previous words EHA.

I never once said Darren Taylor was signing players or had the final say. What i did say was (and what i 100% stand by) or at least was insinuating was that he was having a strong influence on who we did sign.

That for me is an unneceptable conflict of interests.

A Manager must live or die by his own signings. And the role of both Taylor and Csaba (or whoever) is blurring the lines of who is ultimately responsible for the poor recruitment we have witnessed.

His days would certainly seem numbered. On that, we agree.

Yes

Do you honestly believe it isn’t?

Luggy reduced to being this years Jim Spence.  It’s actually shameful.

Fair enough mate, think we agree on most of it.
I’m not defending him, I think macho man was closer to the truth the other day from what I’ve heard.
I don’t rate Taylor or underiwhat he is meant to be doing at the club.
I hope we do get hungry players from England as I see it as a good way forward
Let’s hope this is the first positive steps forward under a new man at the helm

Re: FINALLY

Mario, do you think Luggy is going to be traveling all over England searching for players for us??

Re: FINALLY

I think Luggy has probably offered his 'services' tbth.

I know that he had let it be known back in October that he would have been up for Managing the club till the seasons end and then up for being in a type of DoF role for a period to help ease in a new young Manager. Utd obviously rubbered him but i do know he had said (to my Brother) that he would help the club 'in anyway he could'.

I think he feels the pull of football is still there and wants involved again in some small way. Fwiw i think there is no harm in getting his feedback. I hope he can spot some big, strong and physical players for us to bring in on trial.

Re: FINALLY

Folk going on about Luggys signings for us 20 yrs ago when he was a novice manager with a despot in charge is laughable, he has a huge knowledge of English lower league football which other Scottish clubs have tapped into very successfully, how can this appointment be a negative?

Re: FINALLY

Pleased to hear that Luggie will be doing some scouting for us. Sturrock had a decent management career after leaving us and knows the lower division market quite well and will have extensive contacts so I consider this is a good move. Re the Darren Taylor post, in these days of shorter term contracts (1 to 2 years, rather than wee Jims 10+) and the greater amount of player turnover nowadays, its important to have someone specialising in player recruitment as managers do not have the time to  this properly AND take care of the 1st team. The problem we have is that we appointed Rays mate instead of someone probably more expensive who had more expertise and experience in this area - an out of work manager with a record of spotting/signing talent would have been a better option. Trust United to get so many of the key appointments so wrong.

Bring back the (real) "United Way" not the kiddy-on Martin version

Re: FINALLY

Luggy never hid the fact he had offered utd his services last year.
This appointment doesn't really surprise me.
