Alex Rennie

Sad news that former player Alex Rennie passed away yesterday.

He was a bit of a regular in the mid 70's Jim McLean's side's who had to battle adversity to keep Utd in the top Division. A feat they managed, by the skin of their teeth. But a feat that, nonetheless, kept Jim McLean in a job and afforded him the breathing space to be present when the excellent youngsters he had signed (Sturrock, Narey, Payne etc) started to make a breakthrough into first team action and push the club on.

R.I.P Alex.

Re: Alex Rennie

Alec Rennie was local to me, he had a pub briefly then was a driving instructor after he left the game.

As a player, he was robust in midfield, mind watching him and thinking he was a bit bulky for a footballer. But he was effective!

In later years he managed the Warriors, but like most he wasn't effective in that role.

Believe he'd suffered from cancer for a while, and his death is what older folk call a 'happy change'.  RIP.

Re: Alex Rennie

Alec was a decent player who did a good job for us In the pre Narey Hegarty days. He would be a star in the present team. Thanks for your contribution Alec RIP.

Bring back the (real) "United Way" not the kiddy-on Martin version

Re: Alex Rennie

Mind oe him. Pretty good defender. Think he got a head knock or something and had to stop playing after that. Ended up managing the Johnnies did he no.

Re: Alex Rennie

Was it not an eye injury that stopped him playing ?
