"He backed his managers, though."

"He backed his managers, though."

A quote I keep seeing.

Forgive me, were these duff managers not Stephen Thompson's appointments? And were these duff managers not making signings that were sanctioned by him? Was it not Stephen Thompson selling our players and jokers replacing them? Have we not had unprecedented transfer income in recent years and in 2016 did we not report the "largest profit since the foundation of the football club in 1909"?

Plus, have United not had any season ticket income or SPFL TV and prize money in recent years? It's as if some folk think the whole thing has been funded directly out of Stephen Thompson's personal savings these last few years. Any time Stephen Thompson did invest money, was it not actually his mum's money?

What's this "He backed his managers"?

Re: "He backed his managers, though."

I think folk mean he let them sign players, which is pretty good actually because without them we wouldn’t have anyone on the park.  The mans clearly a star.

(Some) Folk don’t seem to get that we’ve had less money every year to sign players, despite all the transfer income, because of the financial mismanagement of ST.  This has resulted in us signing French amateurs most recently.

He backed his managers indeed.

Re: "He backed his managers, though."

Some of the backing was badly timed, mainly the backing that gains the so called appreciation. He tried to scrape by and give backing in a too little, too late way at panic  times when the market was bad.

Re: "He backed his managers, though."

ST made a roaring James Hunt of it all round.....

For example, he released the money for Ray to sign Toshney.....
