Looking at a rough list of players under contract into next season, it doesn't make happy reading in many cases.
But I'm wondering if I've got it correct?
Toshney
Edjenguélé
Murdoch
Durnan
Stanton
McMullan
King
Keatings
Smith
Not really very inspiring.
Edit: Take Durnan off that list, thanks JerryDungle.

Best player on that list probably Durnan... and he's not a premiership defender.

You wouldn’t really want anyone other than Stanton and maybe Smith, King. Rest are gash.

Fucking mad that we could potentially still have Lewis Toshney on our books next season.
And some still think Ray McKinnon was harshly treated.

Would we be in our current position if mckinnon was still in charge?
Im not defending him btw i just think the current incumbent is worse.
Agreed - I don't think we'd be 17 points off the pace if RM was still in charge

We should have walked this league this year, there shouldn’t have even been a title fight, it’s the worst championship ever. Ray’s signings an tactics had us in a title fight we should have been above.
Csaba’s signings and tactics have us in a fight to get in the play offs, 17 points off the pace. He’s useless.

It's academic whether Raymond would have us in a better position. But it looked like the players stopped trying for him, just as they have for Csaba.
We improved under LE, and that form continued until Csaba's influence began to take hold.

I really like durnan think he’s improved massively

The current incumbent may indeed be worse, scarily.
But McKinnon wasn't winning us the league either or getting us up imo.
Read a stat that the points they had accumulated this season were very similiar.
Mckinnon 17 points out of 33...Laszlo 17 points out of 36

He hasn’t, it’s just those playing with him are now even worse than we had before and he looks ok compared to them. He’s brutal.

Wee bit harsh that imo.
I think he has by and large been ok for us. If he was playing with an Andy Webster type you would probably see him blossom.
Unfortunately for him (and us) he has been partnered with a series of journeymen.

Bar Fyvie, who I believe we have the option to extend on, there’s not one player out of contract that we should even consider keeping, Keatings, Toshney, Edge and Murdoch should be punted too. Durnan, I believe is out of contract at the end of this season.
There’s a few players out of contract in the summer that we should be looking at. Sibbald and Grant at Falkirk are two I’d have, Mark Russell and Thomas O’Ware at Morton as well. The boy Shankland that was at Aberdeen has banged in 20+ for Ayr this season, he’d be worth a punt, as would Lewis Vaughan at Raith. These are the types of boys we should be looking at, young and hungry boys that have 100+ games at this level under their belts.

No point signing anyone till we get a manager that knows how to attack and defend. Messi would struggle the way we currently play

It’s not harsh at all. It’s just accurate.
He’s an honest enough pro but he’s very limited.
It has been the drop down to the championship that has him looking better.
He still lets the ball bounce before headers far too much for my liking.
He is however far from our biggest problem but if we did get promoted he wouldn’t cut it

We will need to agree to disagree. Limited? Yes. Brutal? Not for me. And i've seen plenty of defenders who are or were (McQuillan, McKimmie, McGowan, Darren Patterson, Alsford, Donaldson, Toshney etc).
He is easily our best defender imo (not saying much admittedly). And at least chips in with the odd goal too from time to time.

Aye, you're right about Durnan: he's been around so long, I mistakenly thought he had another season after this. Never knew about the Fyvie option.
Out of the list of other players, O'Ware would be a very good signing. Mark Russell is decent as well. Grant has had too many injury problems (for me) while Sibbald flatters to deceive. He's good when he's good, but is in and out of form. Shankland's surprised me this season, as I thought he was on a downward spiral: he was overweight and lazy looking at Morton, and Vaughan too has been a revelation, after quite a few seasons of what now looks like underachievement. But these boys have shown improved potential in League One, after being relatively poor previously in the Championship.
But like annanarab says, decent signings won't matter if we have a deluded manager in charge.
