Not sure what you guys would say to this ?
But I am pig sick of seeing us go 1 striker upfront. Also think big Harry needs a rest.

Not for me Tek, Don't think McMullan or King do enough to merit a starting berth. Happy to have them come off the bench. Wouldn't have Flood or McDonald in team either and would prefer to see Gillespie in the midfield role we signed him play. Our defenders are not much kop so would play Allardice as the def mid to protect them and have our only fit right back (Ballantine) in the team. I'd also start Chalmers and Smith - they cant be any worse that anyone else whose had the jersey and a bit of youthful exuberance is long overdue. More importantly I tell the players to skip the square and back stuff and get the ball forward as often as possible.

Not saying anyone is a nailed on starter Annan (bar maybe Stanton?).
But if you don't start Mcdonald, McMullan and King you are taking out our biggest goal threats.
They have scored between them 23 of the 50 goals we have scored this season.
Or 46% of Dundee United goals this season. (take out Flood as well and there's 50% of our goals accounted for).
I'm all for youth getting their chance believe me. But starting Chalmers and Smith upfront is not for me.
Ballantyne at Right back though, that I can understand. Only putting Gillespie there at the minute as i thought he grew in to the game on Sunday. But let's be honest. No-one at Utd has a right to claim the Right back role as their's.
Allardice? Jury's out for me. Best game I saw him play was actually at Centre Half v Linfield. Flatters to deceive in midfield from what i have seen so far imo.

we need to go with 2 up front and try and attack teams.
try and get the ball on the ground and move it about.
Mikkelson and McDonald up top for me.
I wonder if we are looking at any un attatched wingers at the minute

Totally agree. Get McDonald and Phil up front and go for it from now to the end of the season; we have nothing to lose.

I’d swap Flood for Gillespie, then put Ballantyne in at RB.
A natural right back is better than a makeshift one.

Play players in the position they were signed or developed to play in, or leave them out: McDonald is a striker, Ballantyne is a right back, Gillespie is a midfielder, as is Murdoch.

Oh aye, and I agree with setting up to attack rather than the drivel we've been served up.

Agree.
Overlapping full backs is key.
Sideway passes kept to a minimum.
2 up front, and attacking CMs arriving late and/or taking players out of position, creating space for others or getting into useful spots. Benefitting from knockdowns.
It’s simple & effective.

Playing with the tempo we saw at home v St Mirren & Falkirk. (1st half v Brechin) give the fans something else to talk about FFS

Wouldn't be against that at all.
Flood has been riding his luck claiming a starting jersey for quite some time.
Needs to show more than just heart. A lot more.

Please.
Going 2 up front is a must. Even against a team like Aberdeen we saw the difference.

What's the problem with the young lad?
He must be pissed off, they've played a left back at right back, Flood and Murdoch and to top it all a midfielder who hasn't been here long enough to have a shite, all before him.
I just don't get it, he's looked decent enough from what I've seen of him

Murdoch
Durnan

They may well have the goals but they are the ones who have had the game time. However, I don't remember any of them ever delivering 90 minute performances (or anything like it). Happy to bring them on to brighten up the later stages but I'd be prepared to give some youthful exuberance a chance to support Mikkelsen up top from the start. And its the centre half qualities in Allardice I want to see protecting a back 4 who canna defend instead of def mids who are not disciplined enough to do the job. Otherwise we stick with the tried/tested/failed and keep on failing

isn't he out of contract in the summer?
if so he would be better off playing at montrose and being in the shop window for a new club, than sitting in the stand
here then getting binned.
club is totally screwing him over.

There's no certainty that Chalmers and Smith would have done any better given more first team appearances.
Neither is exactly prolific for our Devs.

I was responding to the thread "the team "I" would like to see v Livvy"
I accept that Chalmers and Smith might not have done any better but King McMullan, McDonald Flood, Murdoch and a few others have had plenty of chances to show what they can do and IMO haven't done so. Smith and Chalmers (and Ballantine and Allardice and Mehmet) might not be the answer but I'd certainly want to explore all available options now before we get to the business end of the season as IMO the tried/tested/failed crew won't get us up through the play offs.

But as you disagreed with mine i didn't think you would mind me disagreeing with yours.

Chalmers can make an impact if he puts on a bit of muscle depends how much he wants it. Allardice will never make it time to stop suggesting otherwise.
Agree with the attacking consensus games have to be won and clean sheets are unlikely

. Lewis
Durnan
Ballantyne Scobie Robson
King Gillespie Stanton McMullan

Agree on Allardice, too slow, can’t see him breaking into this team which probably means he’ll go down leagues for games.
For the laddies sake actually hope i’m wrong but don’t think I am on what I’ve seen so far.

The only time I saw Ballantyne play he was decent going forward but poor defensively, hence I am going for the more experienced Murdoch.
We need the bite of Gillespie in midfield and frankly Flood, whilst he gives his all, needs dropped. I put Lewis in there, whilst he needs dropped it ain't gonna happen.
