Re: US 'sister club'

Heard from someone they are in an area of the US which doesn't have a Soccer team ATM. They're trying to get one started up, with a view in mind to being able to exchange playing talent.

Re: US 'sister club'

FFS... Here we go again.

At least this time there’s nothing left for them to flog to fund their little Ponzi scheme.

Re: US 'sister club'

So he basically gets to do what he set-out to do all along (and what started this horrific spiral) i.e. move abroad and use an overseas team as his new toy whilst at the same time appointing one of his puppets to 'run things' at Tannadice whilst he still very much pulls the strings.

And soon he will be in the shadows and attempts to hold him to task will be nigh on impossible.

Feel like we'll never get rid of the cunt.

Re: US 'sister club'

This is why fron now in every game we should make it ugly for him. Let him hear it every game. Send his season ticket package back to the club as refused. Fuck him

Re: US 'sister club'

I find it too co-incidental to be honest.
It gets leaked that someone bid £1, then £500k (plus debt). Basically someone is willing to take over the club and give him an escape route. Doing this means he loses the executive lifestyle he lives and he leaves with nothing.

He needs a way of making it clear that he wants his £2m - alas a story is given to the press to enlighten us of a move to create a new club in the US of A. A venture that will benefit United too in way of player exchange. (thats the sweetener but will never come to fruition.)

This isn't going to fund itself so I'm wondering if this is his way of him telling us £2m or he's not leaving.

Probably overthinking it.

Re: US 'sister club'

I'm just noticing, the Thompson family made their cash in the grocer business.

You don't think Stephen is a bit confused with the £3 million 'bid' to put a club into the National Independent Soccer Association? That's NISA, but it's a different NISA Stephen, if you're looking in.

Good points, and you are totally correct in this, it is "too co-incidental to be honest".

Re: US 'sister club'

If United fans were "clever",and determined, they could easily get rid of Thompson soon. Zero season ticket sales would end his reign in an instant. There would be difficulties arising from such a move but with United's fan base, the club could recover but to do so fans need to put head before heart and short term pain before long term gain.

Fans just have to decide how much of a priority it is to get rid of Thompson and how quickly they want to move on from his regime. Fans renewing or taking out season tickets will only prolong the extension (and agony) of the Thompson regime.

"Backing the team" also backs the regime - what a choice for die-hards to consider

Bring back the (real) "United Way" not the kiddy-on Martin version

Re: US 'sister club'

The most worrying thing* about the article for me was this

"Martin is also likely to play a leading role in a new parent company established to dovetail the financial fortunes of Dundee United and a new soccer operation."

Got a real sinking feeling when I saw this  😡

*though having to read the Daily Mail comes a close second 😡

They've already set it up Scarpia.

United FC Group (formerly Thommar Ltd).

They've been plotting this for quite some time.

Re: US 'sister club'

I'm sort of 'fuming' now about these recent announcements of bids being turned down, ST stepping down as chairman, him and MM trying to invest in a third tier US club. Three major potential developments in the space of two days, and over the transfer window closure too.

The board, in the shape of Thompson and Martin, have displayed complete contempt for the support, and it's almost as though that is their aim. It's thoughtless, unless these developments have been made public at this point on purpose, to bring up the change of chairman at some future stage, and potential investment across the ocean some way down the line, as the club flounders on the park. Off it too.

I can't, for the life of me, work out what is behind their timing. But I do know the two of them are showing contempt for their paying customers.

Not something I've previously been in favour of (particularly as I don't currently have one) but I do think it's finally got to that stage.

Same, scarpia.

But how do we make the board aware NOW that a mass boycott is going to happen?

No use waiting until May, imo.

Re: US 'sister club'

Not for me unfortunately. I pay up 2 season tickets as it's easier that way so have already paid for most of next seasons tickets, so unless there is a way of getting my money back it ain't gonna happen.

You can ask for a refund.

Re: US 'sister club'

I reckon ST is playing hard ball. Basically give me the money or I stay. If the potential "buyer/s" are definately interested they have to meet his price as I don't see him backing down at all.

Re: US 'sister club'

I tell you what, Ive purposefully not commented on the previous threads about ST stepping down because obviously not as close to situation as yous all are and I just FUCKING KNEW there was more to that fucking story with that spoiled greedy bastard.

There are so many aspects of this that have me fucking raging.  That this is even a story?  Fuck sake, how many sides in the premiership are talking about having sister clubs in Australia and the US? Pie in the fucking sky shite.

I can fucking unequivocally state right now there is no fucking danger you need to be setting up a sister club for talent from the NASL.  Scout the league, bring anyone in whose decent enough for a trial.  I can guarantee right now that A) There might be 5 players in that league would start for us B) he's not even looking at NASL, will be looking league below because NASL teams are quite well funded. (edit to say hes looking at third tier.  fucking hilarious.)

You may recall that Robertson that came over on trial last year?  Thats basically the talent pool you're talking about.  Undrafted college footballers with one or two foreign players who are playing in america because they want to be in fucking america, no danger you're enticing them over to play in the fucking championship.

Im annoyed im even typing here.  Its such a crock of utter shit.  Doesnt work on any level. The takeaway here boys...

HE THINKS YOURE ALL FUCKING STUPID.

Thompson the fuck out!

Carry on the way he's going and his shares will be worthless.

Re: US 'sister club'

When I was told about this a couple of weeks ago, I thought it was utter tripe. Now that I've heard even more about it,  I still think it's tripe.

I mean, its no gonna be cheap. To start up, from scratch, a professional Football Club, have a Football Ground/Stadium with all the necessary facilities,  and recruit your playing staff, management,  backroom staff, recruit your supporters, and then to be able to fund their salaries and the running costs. The task and the cost is enormous, probably in the 10s of millions of Dollars. I mean WTF. Where the phuck is all the money coming from?
