Re: Thompson Steps down

Will still be majority shareholder though so no real change and no prospect if much needed investment until he's gone

Re: Thompson Steps down

On the surface (and symbolicly for the cleansing of the club) HALLEFUCKINGLUJAH!!

But my worry.

Mike Martin is appointed Chairman and Thompson still pulls the strings in the background ,as per.

Refuses to sell-up unless he gets his 2million asking price and as he is no longer in the 'firing line' publicly it is even harder to hold him to account.

Agreed - I'm not about to celebrate anything until Thompson has severed all ties with DUFC and a long-term replacement is confirmed

Exactly. He’s just paying lip service to the fans. Nothing will change until the twat is gone for good. Nice wee distraction from deadline day too. Fucher knows what he’s doing.

Re: Thompson Steps down

A step in the right direction, but until ST & MM shares are bought and ties to the boardroom are severed it can't see to much change, Fans United posted this before Thompsons step down announcement today.

“Jump Before Pushed” A Member Update

We (along with the Fed and the Foundation) are finalising an open letter intended to go to the Club very, very shortly. The letter expresses a motion of no confidence in Stephen Thompson and requests that he steps down, with immediate effect, to be replaced by an independent CEO, who would conduct a root and branch investigation of all things operational within the Club.
It would appear that the Club have gained advanced notice (presumably via Arab Trust who were canvassed by the Foundation, in good faith, during preparations for the release of the joint statement/open letter.)
The existing regime is attempting to launch a countermeasure in attempt to placate the fans and maintain any vestige of power that they possibly can. They intend to announce that Mr Thompson will step down as Chairman and will be replaced by Mike Martin, with immediate effect.
This will not provide any opportunity for the independent review that is now so critical to the wellbeing of our beloved Club; in essence it will be “more of the same” and may be seen as the last desperate act of the “self-preservation society”
Do not, therefore be at all surprised by this announcement from the Club within this week and, no doubt, the attempted positive spin that it will be wrapped in.
Do not, however, think that we are accepting of this desperate countermeasure and we will continue to press for real change within the Club.
No member should now be in any doubt that, as a group, we are having a VERY significant impact and we must maintain and continue the drive for positive change. Another positive that our members should note is that now the Foundation have realigned themselves and can see that by working together we can be effective.
Fans United, we’re getting there!

Re: Thompson Steps down

He must think we're all buttoned up the back.

Things will only get worse for him from here on.

Re: Thompson Steps down

Might sound negative but I think this could put us in a worse position.
If the tea boy now emigrates and leaves his lackey in charge, he will be harder to affect.
We will have an absentee owner with no true pulse of the ill feeling towards him in the city.

Think Ron Dixon or randy Lerner as an example

Jim Spence on radio Scotland just now giving his piece after speaking to ST earlier.

Re: Thompson Steps down

Time to celebrate is when ST sells his shares and severs all ties with the club and not a second before. Suspect this is another ST gimmick to divert attention - and on transfer deadline day too.

Re: Thompson Steps down

Worth a listen on the podcast later on.

Said the Fed and DUSF made it clear they want him gone and the same for Mike Martin.

Also said nae offers have been made.

Re: Thompson Steps down

The fact he phoned Spence afore he was on the radio gives me the impression we should be careful what we believe.

Just give us a clearout fae the top and let us get on with backing Dundee United.  Nae kiddy on pish.

Re: Thompson Steps down

Apparently he's "always tried to achieve the best for the club" Presume he's forgotten selling Armstrong & GMS, which had nothing to do with United's best interests.

Appointing McNamara (instead of a proper manager) to conduct the fire sale was not in "United's" interests either.

Re: Thompson Steps down

ST can't feed us a pretend a solution to apease the feeling amongst the support.

I crave change, investment and better running of the club as much as a together and United support. Things are dire and the most un United I've ever known.

Most of the fans boycotting are the most vocal. Never heard Tannadice so silent.

The next lot to stop going if he and his closest don't disapear el pronto will leave the place more silent and empty beyond belief.

Season ticket boycott made clear by the fan groups at the afore mentioned meeting seemed to have the effect but going at the end of the season and keeping Mike Martin will probably just piss folk off even more to react they opposite way he's playing it.

Feels even worse to be played a solution that is't even fuckin close to THE solution!

Why doesn't he say that on his Twitter page then instead of the cryptic shit constantly?

No wonder most of our supporters think he's a total arse.

He says what he’s told to say by his mate on the radio, has done for years when it comes to United.
