Title challengers

St Murrn beat Livy 3-1 tonight to go 2 points clear. Came from behind with a 1st fae Lewis Morgan and he set up 2nd. They call him the best in the league and are sure he will be there for the rest of the season although expect offers in January.

They 'fully expect' he will stay with them until the end of the season. They are pumping his brain full of reasons why to stay like all the lads that have had big moves and sat on the bench etc.

They expect offers in January window but want to put terms on that he stays to win the league & sign a pre contract. Unless this is a done deal it seems premature to be so confident of that, we'll see.

Baith teams had plenty efforts on goal tonight, 25 & 19 with 8 on target each.

Livy look like a challenger, Pars could well be. QoTS, Morton, ICT possibly too. Only leaves Dumbarton, Brechin and Falkirk looking totally out of the chase.

Might be a good thing Fraser is just getting back to fittness and injury is still a concern with January window approaching.

Starting to hope our rivals have their best players pinched when we need it.

We have Pars home, Morton away, QoTs away, Livy home then StMurrn away on 29th December.

Tough month but a chance to take points aff  rivals for promotion/playoff spots.

Re: Title challengers

Is that the first time St Mirren have ever beaten Livingston in Paisley? Good comeback, and St Mirren should really be the main 'challenge' this season.

Football has a habit of kicking fans in the nuts, but if St Mirren are our primary opponents, it will take a lot for us to fuck up the season.

Nonetheless, we are capable of doing so, but without more physicality and forward thinking in the team it will be more difficult.

And Wato Kuate has signed for another team now.

He joined a team in Israel last month.  Has he left them ahriddy Pat?

No, I've misled you: was just suggesting a solid, competitive forward moving midfielder is something we lack.

Wato's started four games for his new team in the last month.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Maybe you hope not!
If Wato had been counselled & not rubbered might we have had the X Factor in our title challenging team?
I can just see him at the Glebe on Saturday, he would have done something.

Re: Title challengers

Wato was absolutely honking in the playoffs apart from the goal at Morton. Misplaced passes, not tracking back and a total lack of discipline.

The reason he was getting abuse was that he was costing us the game at tannadice....

Imo his ego was 100 times bigger than his talent. Also showed a total lack of decorum to be banging his gums after about how he was glad United lost. Like gunning, he really didn't see there would be downsides to his actions and they got royally stung. Both players actions were shown internationally and guaranteed they didn't get the move they thought they deserved

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Title challengers

Tangy, I'm not suggesting we should have kept Wato, although I do think he performed better in the play offs, especially second half at Greenock and Falkirk, than he is being credited for.

He should have been subbied at ht v Hamilton.

I'm saying we lack a strong boy like him in midfield, one who likes the ball to be moved forward.

Re: Title challengers

Didn't really want to get involved in more Wato discussions but here's my tuppenceworth.

After Christmas (When United were top) United won 4 out of 18 league games (22%) which was actually relegation form. Prior to the last game of the season Wato made 7 consecutive starts and United were unbeaten in all these games. These included away games at Falkirk, Dumbarton and Morton - ground where United had lost 5 times earlier in the season. In some of the games Wato played United had 20+ goal attempts compared with less than a handful in  pre-Wato games. United were far more positive with him in the side cos he passed the ball forwards instead of backwards/sideways and was willing to hold on to the ball instead of passing the buck. Wato may have been far from the finished article, he may not have been able to handle some of the pressure that came his way but there is no doubt in my mind that he made a difference and nearly rescued Ray's season.  He had strengths as well as his weaknesses and those strengths could have got us promoted. As Pat said above he should have been subbed at ht v Hamilton and home and had he been subbed then and started in the final game, we might have had a chance of winning that game. Without him, we reverted back to the non attacking, non successful rubbish we played post-Christmas. Of all the guys that have played in midfield over the last 3 seasons, Wato would be my top pick by a country mile

Bring back the (real) "United Way" not the kiddy-on Martin version

Re: Title challengers

Wow Annan that's a  ringing endorsement. A well-put argument & I don't necessarily disagree with you.
We'd need to find an insider to know what was going on with him, perhaps there was just too much excess baggage.

Re: Title challengers

Morton might be our toughest test since StMurrn away. A win could potentially put them up to 3rd.

Michael Tidser and Jai Quitongo are back playing and scoring after several weeks out.

Is Tam Scobie back for this?

If he is he might have to play 2nd fiddle to the Mighty Quinn, he was ok.

Liked him putting his heid in risking a boot in the puss. All 3 lack pace, Quinn is awfy right footed and lacking match time so Scobie fur me.

Re: Title challengers

Think we will win this one. If we can get Robson and Murdoch pushing there wide players like Quitongo into their own third then we will cause them problems.

As well as that I would have someone like Flood or Fyvie marking Harkins, he hates someone snapping at him, often leads to him playing slack passes etc.

They also have no pace at the back, if we try to get King/McMullan 1 on 1 with one of their full backs or put balls down the channels we will be in for a good afternoon.

Re: Title challengers

StMurrn holding on to McGinn and us holding onto Fraser might be a big factor in who wins or loses title for promotion.

It's Morgan. Septic reported to be after him now.

Cheers Nemo.

Re: Title challengers

That's him signing for Septic but staying at StMurrn until the end of the season so I wonder how his form will go now.

Pressure and spotlight on him.

Late goal for Morton at Livy to go 1-0 up. No sure what result to wish for in this game.
