Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

You know this tho, the futile thing is there's a 90% chance whoever gets the job won't be very good.
The job of football manager/1st team coach (call it what you will) is all but untenable, the whole thing's a farce I'm afraid.
We're looking for our 15th permanent manager post JYM & you can count the very successful ones on one finger and maybe the ones who scraped a pass mark on two fingers.

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

Jim Mcintyre would be my number 1 target.

Reading this in his wikipedia entry got me sold;

"After four straight wins, McInytre was awarded the First DivisionManager of the Month award for December.[13] He again won the award, this time for Dunfermline's unbeaten run in September 2008.[14] In the 2010–11 season, McIntyre led Dunfermline to the First Division Championship and promotion back to the Scottish Premier League,[6] eventually winning the league by ten points, ahead of Raith Rovers. In three and a half years in the division with The Pars he was Manager of the Month five times"

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

Houston out of running according to Tully and Stubbs has ruled himself out.

Can't say I am disappointed in either case

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

My choice out of that list would be McLeish. For the old head and that he would surely have an established framework of scouts, coaches etc. But The snake's not gonna tempt him. Same with Billy Reid ... he sounds like a good option but it would take some serious dosh to tempt him.

I have a feeling that we are going to be left with the cheapest of whoever hasn't ruled themselves out !!

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

If Laurie Ellis as Caretaker Manager wins at Dumbarton on Saturday then beats St Mirren next Saturday do you think we might keep him...?

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

If Kilmarnock & ross county can attract ex-premiership managers then we should be able to as well. However, it shouldn’t need anyone with more than a wee bit of brains to get us promoted. It’s an easy job with a club that has,by far, the biggest budget in the league. We spend premiership wages & have the best facilities to work with.

However, there appears to be a rotten core inside tannadice & Utd seems to be a great career ender for up and coming managers. If there was any name that’s been linked with the job that appeared to be a safe pair of hands I’d be all for appointing them. The nearest to that would appear to be lambert, imo. Not sure he’d be interested but he’s the only guy mentioned that interests me.

However, for where we’re at and what we need, I think Jim mcinally would be a decent fit. A guy that takes no prisoners, ex players talk highly of & knows how to set a team up...

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

Out of the names stated billy reid is the only one that doesn't fill me with absolute fucking dread.
It's just a mixture of Scottish football tombola and ex players / managers all who have had some success but mostly failures.
Not sure who I would want but Reid so far is the only name that hasn't made me say 'fuck no'

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

Gordon Young now mentioned by local press as a candidate.

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

I thought Gordon Young was decent, we played better football and won games under him. Think I would like to see him in charge of our youth development though, im sorry but wtf does Bowman do?

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

Gordon Young was simply mentioned on a message board by a fan the other day, so doubt there is anything in that at all. Fckn hope not.

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

TBH I like the route Motherwell have taken.
I would prefer it for some player recruitment as well.
Getting managers and players with a bit of a track record from the English lower leagues seems to work well.
They are familiar with the style of play but also focus a lot more on strength, fitness and structure.
If we could entice someone up to the Scottish second tier on the premise that our situation is just temporary, I think that's better than yogi Hughes or Jim mcintyre

Re: Who do you want to replace McKinnon?

I wouldn't be as horrified as others if he got it.

He impressed me in his time here and tbh i would have gave him a crack at it rather than McKinnon in the first place.

Good news about the 50+ applicants. Hopefully it won't be one of the most quoted we get, and instead the board  runs a proper process AND ensures we don't hand out an unrealistically long deal. Some sort of incentive based contract would surely be sensible.

Regarding Gordon Young, and putting aside my personal dislike for him, what makes some United fans think he'd be a viable, even 'brilliant' option? Based on his Mixu involvement, I can't recall thinking 'that management team have prepared the players for this match today', or watching Young during the warm-ups, the players just clowned around, some ignoring his attempts at organisation or even hand slapping at the conclusion.

I'm also baffled that the games following relegation being confirmed are taken as some sort as endorsement of his abilities. We didn't win two and draw one under his command. We lost at Inverness due to his (and others) stupidity in playing an ineligible player. The draw against a Thistle team at Tannadice wasn't a great result, and needed two very late goals against a Jags team which had downed tools. Same at Rugby Park, against a Killie team resting for the play-offs.

Never thought I'd see the day when such a complete no mark was in charge of our team.

No offence to him but I don't know who the fuck he is.
He could come up to me in the street and hoof me square in the plums and I'd struggle to give the police a description 😩
