Agree with most of this except the inept part.  I don't think Rays inept, he's just really stubborn.  He wants us to play this slow, cautious, pass, pass, pass game and grind teams down, winning every match 1-0.  It's not working but he refuses to change despite people telling him (I bet some players have complained and I bet ST has said something). Why? because he thinks he's right and everyone else is wrong, that's why.  Arsene Wenger's exactly the same.
 

The problem with this theory is that the punters who pay the wages are not enamoured by the zero entertainment of the slow hard grind approach and will be unlikely long term to keep on forking out their hard earned cash on boring tosh and especially so when the boring tosh is not successful. In any walk of life alienating customers is not the pathway to a long and successful career.  This was/is a big job which is way beyond Ray's capabilities and he's been found out.

Ray.. do the decent thing and pack your stuff after the match today.
